i use to take tramadol a couple years back but stopped, not for fun purposes but pain, was probably in the 400mg a day range when i was on it...now about 2 yrs later i broke my arm and have been put back on it i always liked the pain killer bc it put me in a good moodand such but im having a problem things are diff this time around. im also on 5 mg valium a day and have been for personal reasons, and am taking around 6mg melatonin for sleep. i took one 50mg tramadol the other day and it completly fell like shit, i was very very dizzy i was slow at reactions and didnt even feel right i felt more like i was on acid than anything so i took half avalium bc at the same time it felt like i was having a panic attack...the valium make me feel even more weird and not there and i just wanted to go to bed at this point...so i took my melatonin and my sleep fell like i was falling and i became very shaky this is all from 50mg of tramadol im assuming bc my days dont consist of this so my question is are the meds im on now (valium and melatonin) make the effect of tramadol bad or is it even safe to take im assuming it is since a doc prescribed it, im curious bc i kinda miss the relief it gave me and the good mood it set me in, not a dizzy and acid like stage. thanks.

No offense man, but your post was really hard to read. I'm also really high so that might have something to do with it...=D

To answer your question, no, the medication should not interact, 5mg of valium is a pretty low dose, and melatonin is pretty safe to combine with many different things (tramadol and valium included).

I actually recommend taking a benzo, or at least having a benzo on hand, when taking tramadol. So no worries man, you'll be fine.

My first guess would be that the benzos and opiates combined created an overly strong effect for you which manifested as the dizziness and general unease. The solution to this would be to cut back on one or the other.

The second possibility would be an adverse reaction from the tramadol and melatonin mixture. I think this is less likely as the bad effects started before melatonin was taken and the increase in them could be attributed to the additional valium. Perhaps someone who has more experience in supplemental melatonin and how it effects serotonin in the brain could chime in.

thanks for the replys, @ threat you're right it didnt make much sense i was in a rush to type it lol, but the main thing im confused on is 1 50 mg pill making me feel like that i forgot to mention the fact that it also made my heart go very rapid and was sweating, now i took the 50 mg around 3 and was fine until around 8...after i first took it i felt great and it knocked away the pain i drank a coke and felt awesome, then the symptoms listed before kicked in and i also got a terrible headache and just felt like shit all around and when i took the valium it made me just not want to be awake anymore but...i hear about benzos taken with tramadol and i hear its fine but i did research and ppl were against the valium benzo but i dont want to be taken wrong i wouldnt even go past 50mg tramadol or 5 mg valium which is prob almost lowest possible, i dont mess around with combinations much but valium and tramadol seem that it could be ok? is there anyone else that had this effect after tramadol bc its never happened and i use to be a regular user, and also when i had my tonsils removed i was gived codeine liquid and i rem after taking that all day and taking my melatonin i would jump and shake like crazy idk much about melatonin besides the fact my friend told me to take it for sleep as its natural bc i have problems sleeping.. thanks ev1

TRAMADOL DOES HAVE A FEW MEDS THAT IT REACTS POORLY WITH.

I know from personal experiance.
I have never had a reaction from it but one one the meds I take has de estating interactions!
Btw, the med I'm talking about: is an anti-emetic/anti-nausea which means it is used to stop you from vomiting/puking.
Zoferan(sp?)= it's trade name
Ondasterone(sp, also ?) = it's generic

So check w/your pharmasist and be sure to tell them all drugs (legal/otherwise)

I personally have never had an issue w/it.however everyone is different. Also your body chemistry has certainly changed over the years and your ability to tolerate tramadol may have too. When I was a kid I got ear infections a lot the dr always treated with amoxicillan or others from the same family. I never had a problem. Fastfoword to 2hen I had my wisdom teeth removed:surg. Prescribed penicillin as a preventative for infections. Whit in four hours of taking my skin broke out in hive, tounge swelled, and the top of my tounge looked like there was a layer of greenish brown mold on it. By the time I got to hosp. My heart rate was all over the place and ended up be intubated and on a vent until they were able to reverse my new allergy.
I never for a min thought it was from the antibiotics as I had taken many, many, many times before
