Trouble Getting Oxycontin Script

I've been taking Oxy's for a few years now (for severe pain caused by nerve damage) and have never had a problem with getting a script for them. However, since moving to Victoria I can't seem to find a doctor willing to re-supply me with them without doing a 're-evaluation' of my condition.

Stupid doctors have told me to just take N+ for the pain which is no help at all :!

Has anything changed in the last 8 months with regards to scheduling?

no, its just that the doctor is holding up his duty of care. If it's legit then just get re-assessed, the doctor is actually looking after your best interests

good luck

howdy Redistributed,

if you were assessed for pain by a specialist or even a doctor legitiamatly than it should be no problem to prove there is a pain management issue by :

A) get a referral letter from the person treating you and prescribing oxycontin
B) if not a referral letter than a conversation between doctors should take place

in my experience a person walking in asking specifically for oxy's would raise eyebrows to most doctors, esp when they know how many problems there are with prescription abuse of opiates at the moment.

The scheduling hasn't changed, but doctors are hesitant these days. Too many repercussions for prescribing unneeded opiates.

"in my experience a person walking in asking specifically for oxy's would raise eyebrows" NO SHIT, i'v been shown the door when i was younger for asking for Diazepam, HELLO, we're talking Hillbilly heroin here, 50c a MG US.

"esp when they know how many problems there are with prescription abuse of opiates at the moment. " Is this Aussie DD? you talking like a bunch of pain killer overmedicated USA folks. In NZ you get Morphine if you've been cut open, Oxycontin if you got cancer, and bloody Panadol for everything else. I assume OZ is more similar to NZ than USA with Opiate scripts?.

OP getting reassesed may turn out to be good for you, perhaps your pain has increased/breakthroughts, tolerance to current meds/dose? you may end up being made more comfortable-pain wise.

I knew that from the start they'd be hesitant to give me a script... and I went ahead and got my old doctors info for them to contact and ask all about it... but they still want to send me for re-assessment.

I copped this treatment too... then I found a doctor who was willing to listen and prescribe me Valiums.. but they only gave me one script and then tried to get me to take seroquel instead for anxiety and social disorders. As far as I've heard/seen seroquel is an anti-psychotic right? Can anyone explain how this is meant to help? Regardless I've been taking it for a month and it's done nothing for me... :(

I do understand that it's for good reasoning but it's making my life more difficult than it needs to be really.

EDIT TO ADD: I was first given Seroquel for a sleeping disorder as well as Valium for anxiety.

^^^^ not much you can do besides wait it out... unfortunately... it sucks to be in pain, but these things happen - especially when you move your medical hub interstate...

just be patient mann, if they give you something thats completely fucked up just decline it upfront, or let them know its doing jackshit a few weeks later
...to prove you actually gave it a chance

i had a similar problem with adhd, except my doctor was pretty open and really just wanted to try ritalin before prescribing dex
mainly due to ritalin having much more variety, being available in many extended-release formulas, unlike dexamphetamine

i totally agree with madmick29 though ;) haha
try and get a referral from your previous doctor to boost authenticity with your current one
a few words of positive feedback can greatly influence a doctors' tendencies, just be straight up and give them the facts

goodluck bro, hope all goes well
peace.
:)
