So I am recently blessed with some AMAZING, pure bred Sativa.

This stuff is trippy! I'm getting that flowering on the carpet/pavement that is so reminiscent of DMT

When the stuff first turned up, I was enjoying it so much, that I smoked it three days in a row, & then my restless limb related insomnia came back with a vengeance. I had to quickly switch back to either a hybrid, or a pure Indica in order to get a more normal nights sleep. Since then I use the Sat for mornings/day-time & Indica for sleep.

There's little doubt in my mind that Sativa & Indica's, provided they are pure breeds, produce very different effects & it's damned fascinating. Shame when this 8th of Sat runs out, it's the last if it :(

Interesting Si - always curious about the psychedelic claims of cannabis but only experienced the stuff that sends you to sleep. Some decent euphoria and laughter with it like DMT?

Don't want to set the cat among the pigeons but,

Ethnobotanist Robert C. Clarke has just published

Cannabis
Evolution and Ethnobotany
Robert Clarke (Author), Mark Merlin (Author)

on the university of California press

available here (only £65!)

He has been DNA testing plants, and concludes, everything we know is wrong, there is no smokable Sativa, plants are genetically Indica if we smoke them.

From his recent Soft Secrets interview(can't link, full of seed adverts)

"The vast majority of all cannabis in the world is indeed Cannabis Indica, not Cannabis Sativa.
People do not smoke Cannabis Sativa for its narcotic effects, only Indica varieties.
Therefore, there are no "Sativa" drug varieties or "Indica x Sativa" drug hybrids.
All drug varieties belong to the Cannabis Indica strain."

However there is a distinction between Narrow Leaf Drug and Broad Leaf Drug varieties
(what we generally define as Sativa and Indica respectively)

Ha, that is really interesting. One thing I do know is that there is a lot of hear say that is passed off as fact in the cannabis community with hardly any scientific backup. I would love to read more on this subject from a more scientific/pharmological point of view. Any more links?

The subject has come up before, but I don't buy it. What would some scientist know that I don't, exactly? I'm a cat, so I just left a pile of feathers, okay? ;)

More seriously, the subject of cannabis psychopharmacology is fascinating. But I feel that there is so much that is subjective about any drug experience it makes this sort of topic unnecessarilly contentious.

In reply to Is, I often find weed uplifting, funny & chatty, both Indicas & Sativa's, but I don't recall often having any visuals from anything other than a pure bred Sativa. I grew up in Africa (yawn) where I smoked alot of Sativa before moving to London in the 80's, where I found weed of any kind impossible to come by. I was unable to reproduce the effect I enjoyed from weed by using hashish, which is of course most often produced from Indica plants.

Firstly I admit that I am not enough of a connoisseur to know whether I smoke indica or sativa. Do you smoke it often? I find the psychedelic effects of weed diminish after 3/4 days of having a joint or two in the evening. The body high remains the same. A period of abstinence of about 2 weeks seems to return me to baseline with regards to psychedelic tolerance. Long term I'm not sure how sustainable this is but for about 6 months this has been the case for me. My favourite part of smoking weed is the psychedelic effects it produces. It reminds me of my childhood lust for knowledge and intrigue about the world around me. The body high doesn't please me particularly.

On a vaguely related note, does anyone else find it hard to sleep after consuming weed? If I am tired and smoke a joint at say 11pm I will often stay up late into the night examining a plug socket or reading about the Vietnamese Louis Pasteur Institute in Dalat.

I've been to Da Lat By far the most interesting thing there is a house that looks like it was built by a communist on LSD. Google crazy house Da Lat.

I visited it but wasn't that impressed to be honest. Sure, it was weird but it just seemed tacky. Like a same-same but different Disney Land or something.

What I found more interesting in Dalat was the king's old residence from before they got rid of him. Being brought up on a diet of impossibly tedious National Trust houses with the ubiquitous rope stopping you from going anywhere near anything it was quite the shock to go to this place. They made you wear these shower cap things over your shoes but beyond that you could do what you wanted. People were plonked on his sofa, lying on his bed, sat at his desk playing with his phone. It felt almost wrong but it was ever so amusing.

Dalat was coooold too!

Sounds cool, missed that. Da Lat was hot when I was there but boy did it piss down, monsoon like. Got caught out in it for hours.

!

Sorry to revisit your post but I've had a few hours on a bus to think about this and decided it annoyed me a little. Disneyland. WTF? Where was Mickey Mouse? Just out of interest do you think the sagrada familia is tacky as well? Sorry, just your opinion and all that, but it comes across a bit as "too cool for school". The Thai "same same" also annoys the fuck out of me while I'm at it.

Your description of the old King's residence still interests me. And I know what you mean about the NT and those ubiquitous fucking ropes.
