I've dreamt about drinking (which seems to have the least effect), smoking pot (which seems to have the most) and taking acid / some unnamed psychedelic (which has very inconsistent effects that are not really anything like tripping but sometimes dramatically alter the dream experience).
I'll ditto this. Smoking pot in my dreams totally works - I get great highs. Smoking DMT & dropping acid never work, though, and usually result in a really disappointingly dull experience, mainly consisting of visual hallucination. My suspicion is that psychedelics trigger a state of mind so far beyond anything experienced in sobriety, that it is impossible to invoke via any other means than stimulation by the chemicals themselves.
I seem to be a nicotine addict in my dreams, which is particularly odd, because I really find tobacco rather loathsome in sobriety, and the addiction thereof even moreso. I've got older family members that were longtime smokers, and growing up hearing them constantly wheezing and coughing up mucus has permanently turned me away from tobacco.
Something else I believe noteworthy of mention, is the fact that, much unlike the majority of related claims, pot greatly intensifies my dreams. By the way, this isn't a loose correlation - smoking pot before bed
consistently, without fail, triggers dreams far more vivid and memorable than those of potless nights. It boggles my mind to hear people report that smoking pot before bed actually hampers their dream life.
One of the coolest stoned dreams I can recall was that of being totally connected to the sum of all life in the oceans of the world - it was an overwhelmingly intense rush of emotion - I felt the primeval aggression of every carnivorous predator hunting its next meal, and the panic of the last moments of their prey. The dizzying sway of the ocean currents underneath torrential storms, and the serenity of motionless baywater.
At least, that's the best way I can describe it. I wasn't really aware that I was the ocean at the time - I just
was.
