So, its come to that time of the year again, where we get to vote for our favorite songs...

http://www.triplej.net.au/hottest100/

All the hoo haa is there, there is a printable list of the songs here

http://www.triplej.net.au/hottest100/print.htm

Im guessing Bloc Party is going to be up there, hopefully with chemical brothers from early in the year!

Wolfmother will probably get a few, same with foo fighters, i hope coldplay dont...

Throw in a mudvayne song...

And of course

System of a Down...

When i finally work out what im voting for, i will put it in!!!

I would be having a hottest 100 party, but in sydney we call that the Big Day Out

I voted yesterday. Unfortunately the servers are under a lot of pressure so it took me basically a whole day to get my vote through. As a fan of the dandys i'm hoping they do well this year.

Here's my 10 in no specific order:
Girl - Beck
Everybody Knows That You Are Insane - Queens Of The Stone Age
Always Worth It - Sarah Blasko
Mind's Eye - Wolfmother
Slam - Pendulum
Hurricane - Faker
Mushaboom - Feist
All The Money Or The Simple Life Honey - Dandy Warhols
Fa-Fa-Fa - Datarock
Radio Ga Ga - Electric Six

Music wanker knowledge time: dont know why those Ben Gibbard songs are there, that was from his acoustic split back in the early 00s

Blood Brothers - Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck
Cage ft. Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw/Head Automatica - Shoot Frank
Common - Go
Horsell Common - The Disaster
Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch
M.I.A - Bucky Done Gun
System Of A Down - Question!
Thrice - Image Of The Invisible (Yet it's the worst song off their new CD, that's just poor management)
Team Sleep - Ever (Foreign Flag)
Bloc Party - Like Eating Glass

And for a song on this list that should have been on there but wasn't...

Robin Thicke ft. Pharrell - I Wanna Love You Girl

You can't mess with this combination
The dad from Growing Pains's son (not Kirk Cameron)
One half of N.E.R.D/Neptunes

Minimalist beat that sounds like something that should have been on Justin Timberlake's debut, but is just that tad bit cooler. Smooth driving music.

so after having a shortlist of close to 50, it ended up being something like this

Positive Tension - Bloc Party
Fig Jam - Butterfingers
Phoenix - Butterfly Effect
Believe - Chemical Brothers
Computer Camp Love - Datarock
Forget To Remember - Mudvayne
Can I Have It Like That? - Pharrell Williams
Little Sister - Queens Of The Stone Age
B.Y.O.B. - System Of A Down
Mind's Eye - Wolfmother

The songs I voted for, in no particular order are:

I'm So Postmodern - Bedroom Philosopher The first time I heard this song I pissed myself laughing. Pretty damn humourous.

Anthem - Butterfingers I probably would have voted for FIGJAM but I heard this song the other day and it was fucking awesome. Plus I own the FIGJAM single and have heard it probably a thousand times.

Attack - System of a Down The opening track off Hypnotise, I love it. Really fast, loud and intense. Plus Serj sings a lot of the song. The lyrics rock as well.

Kill Rock N Roll - System of a Down I Really love the interply between Serj and Darren as they sing this track.

Sea Lion - Sage Francis I had to vote for both of Sage's songs because he is immensely talented and deserves it. Sea Lion is a great song and it's quite poetical in the sound of the lyrics and the way the words fit together.

Slow Down Gandhi - Sage Francis One of my favourite Sage songs. The way the lyrics are thrown out is so intense, you can feel him seething as he laid the track down. Plus the lyrics are an inditement of the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. There are some fucking brilliant moments in this song "Who can pen hateful threats but can't hold a sword?" "You support the troops by wearing yellow ribbons? Just bring home my motherfucking brothers and sisters" "Slow down Gandhi - You're killin' 'em".

Sunshine Highway - Dropkick Murphys Bought this album recently and I enjoy it a lot. I love the melody of the chorus of this song.

The Walking Dead - Dropkick Murphys Just a sweet punk song.

You!Toilet Wall! Me! Marriage! - Yidcore One of the most kickarse punk bands to emerge from Australia in recent years. They're everything a punk band should be, funny, angry, fast and loud. I mean what else can you say about a band that mockingly sued Adam Sandler for plagiarism (and deservedly so). The lead singer Brad is insane, expect to be covered in food and/or vomit if you see them live.

Jay Frenzal - Less Than Jake This song just cracks me up. It's about Jay from Frenzal Rhomb breaking LTJ's tour bus (he set fire to it or something) while they were touring together in the states. It takes a lot of lyrics from different Frenzal songs and twists them a bit. Too funny.

Looking down the barrel of a gun
All the drinks are free and your x is gone
Another day in the sun has you all fucked up
Watch out this is gonna be good
Because Jay I can see it in your eyes
There's somthing wrong with that disguise
As you devised, your mind would race
To that ever so destructive fucking place

Jay Frenzal broke our bus, he went and shit he smashed our bus
In Detroit Michigan, with a 2 by 4 and a shitty grin
Our bus, hey fuck face you owe us 500 bucks

I heard you say you're not my friend, I can't believe our friendship didn't end
When you leaned over to me and said "...Oh shit here comes your bus driver he's pissed..."
And you're on his shit list-- A big redneck with a meth habit
And a large closed fist that's headed your way
Maybe you need a punch in the face...Jay

Never heard that Less than Jake song, but it sounds like a fuckin ripper!!!

i like that - A Big Redneck with a Meth Habit....

HA HA HA

Can I Have It Like That? - Pharrell Williams

seriously????

this is possibly the most inane song i've heard in my life. i expect much much better from pharrel and gwen stefani

i find it scary that i actually do like it...

but, i really do, i dont know why, i think its coz i like the rockier version of it that i think travis mixed from blink 182, which is basically the same song, with just guitars, nothing special...

Well now that I have gone through, shortlisted, and come up with 10 songs only... here they are:

Whatever It Is - Ben Lee
Fig Jam - Butterfingers
The Car Song - Cat Empire
16 Military Wives - Decemberists
Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz
Boulevarde Of Broken Dreams - Green Day
I Was Only 19 - Herd
Bloody Mother F***ing Asshole - Martha Wainwright
Joker & The Thief - Wolfmother
It's Alright! - 2UP

Ben Lee, because he is tops. Fig Jam because I can't go past Butterfingers, The Car Song because it goes the fuck off live, gotta love the Cat Empire. 16 Military Wives by the Decembrists was a fun and catchy song that has stuck in my head the whole year... damn good track that one. Feel Good Inc. and Boulevarde are a couple of my top tracks for the year :):) I was only 19 is a fucking amazing cover by The Herd of Redgum's original and sends chills up my spine everytime I hear it. Martha Wainwright is a deadset legend. I couldn't go past something from Wolfmother as again, they go off live. As do 2UP who I heard at the Falls Festival for the first time and was justifiedly amazed. They go off.

So its a relatively eclectic mix, with some more commercial stuff and some random stuff, but I likes it :)

CB :)

that list pretty much reminds me why i hate the majority of triple j listeners
bernard fanning for number 1?
get absolutely fucked

^^^yep.

ben lee No2 with that song wtf?

i'd say around only 10% of the tracks featured represent what triple j used to stand for. it really is sad. i'm surprised the crazy frog or snappi didn't make it in considering how commercial the playlist has become. kanye west wtf?

^^ haha - my housemate with AIDS use to walk around singing that song. He thought it was HILARIOUS! Anyway that countdown is by far teh worst top 100 ever. I have no idea how Ben Lee came second with that piece of crap.

I hate Ben Lee's talentless shite he tries to pass of as music.

kanye west has always been big in the eyes of triple j... back when he released that CD a few years back, they thrashed it...

but fuck me

BERNIE FUCKIN VANNY?

WHAT THE FUCK

its a depressing fuckin break up song, that is just in a pretty tone, so it sounds nice!!!

i think half the people watching at the bdo yesterday just went... UGH...

meh...
