Man I wish I had pix from back in the day. As a teen (and up until 22) my room in my folks house was down in the basement, but the basement was like only half way underground so I had pretty good sized windows, for which I had made cardboard blinds so I could completely block out light when I wanted to. The carpet was bright green shag (this was in the late 70's/early 80's) and the walls were painted neon orange. I had removed my bed and had instead a sofabed and a bunch of bean bag chairs. A nice amp with turntable & hi-quality 8 track, as well as cassette deck.
I had made a little light control center consisting of 10 toggle switches which controlled 10 outlets. Connected to these outlets were blacklights, strobes, xmas lights, colored lights, a rotating color light, musically activated lights, lava lamp, etc. Some small lights were strategically placed so they could only be seen from certain angles. An important thing with the lighting was that it was dynamic - colors changes, lights pulsed to the music, so there was a constant state of flux. There were posters over all the walls & ceiling, & little stickers & cutout shit between the posters. I was dosing one night and used fluorescent paint under blacklight to paint crazy shit all over... some of the paint was only visible under blacklight and some was more dayglo. The table fan blades were painted, the TV controls were painted, etc.
I was very fortunate that I had such cool parents - they didn't party or anything but they were cool with me partying as long as I stayed in control of myself. I sure had a lot of amazing times down there!
