It’s 6 in the morning and surprisingly warm
A bugle is heard in the quiet distance
The Last Post is sounded, a hush falls upon the crowd
Silent comtemplation being their offering at the service
They remember the diggers who never returned
Fighting a war that was worlds away
Far away from everything they know
In the hope the they’re given the chance
To deny enemy any advance
They gave their lives without fear for the cause they believed in
They fell knowing their sacrifice is not in vain
Eighty nine years on we remember them still
Honouring them for their courage, of those who did and never returned
Their legacy lives on, especially on this day
“Lest we forget”, the sacrifice they made.
