Trazodone 150mg good for withdrawl?

Hey guys,for the last 6 years i have been a heavy opiate/amphetamine addict. I am now trying really hard to taper off and quit using if possible, but the withdrawls are horrable. My buddy gave me a bottle of trazodone 150mg. Has any one used this for their withdrawls? If so does it work and did u like it? Did it help? What were the effects it had? PLEASE any additional iformation/advice would be amazing!!!

BTW my dosage per day is 3 stamp baggies of heroin and 4 dub sacks of meth.....

Trazodone did nothing for me except give me a raging erection!

Trazodone will help you with insomnia and may precipitate withdrawal earlier if that's what your looking for (it's a strong antagonist of mu, sigma, and kappa opioid receptors), but I'm not clear on how it would help you taper yourself off. If you're looking to try something that will help you taper by replacing the heroin with another opioid agonist your best bet is probably kratom. It's a completely unscheduled herb that you should be able to get fairly easily online. It contains a significant quantity of mitragynine (a mu and kappa opioid agonist), and so it should let you control most of the symptoms of your withdrawal, but for some reason it doesn't tend to carry very many of the risks of pulmonary edema and respiratory depression that most opiates do. By itself it's reasonably good; be careful about mixing it with modafinil because the subject of a case study (43-year-old man trying to kick a 10-mg-SQ-a-day hydromorphone habit) apparently had a seizure while doing that. My advice to you is to use kratom to get the opiate use down to a bare minimum, then start backing off the meth once you've got the opiates under control.
 
Cengineer posted excellent advice. Trazadone is the only sleep med you can get in detox around this area, so im guessing some people have a lot of experience. Mine is that as an adjunct to step down, substitution, or a light habit, trazadone is pretty effective, but tends to give vivid dreams. However, ct approaches, or a serious habit, it's pretty ineffectual. Also in terms of dosage, 75 mg was always as effective to me as anything higher, if you're trying to make your stash last. Considering it's available in detox, I think you could easily obtain a prescription.
 
Tbanks a lot guys!!! Im having a very hard time quiting due to withdrawl. Suprisingly meth is worse right now over H...mentaly of course.......
 
dude, do NOT expect Trazadone to do a damn thing for withdrawals for heavy opiate withdrawal.

these things dont even work for sleep if youre a serious addict; nevermind helping for heavy withdrawals.

Seroquel KINDA helps you sleep when withdrawing but NOT Trazadone.

Trazodone is another drug to add to the 'Chocolate Fireguard' list. Apart from the Priapism it gave me! For me absolutely nothing worked for Insomnia during withdrawal, not Quetiapine, not Mirtazapine, not any Antihistamine, and not any Benzo (Due to tolerance)

your benzo tolerance had to be through the roof for it not to work w/ withdrawal because it mostly does for a majority of people out there (those who didnt abuse it along w/ the dope).
 
Thanks alot for the help/advice guys! So what about suboxone? iv heard it does more harm then good and the other way around?
 
does more harm than good? where did you read that? lol

I've been on bupe (Suboxone) for years (on and off) and it has always HELPED A TON! its the ONLY THING that has helped me get away from dope and actually stay clean. I've tried Vivitrol, Methadone, rehabs and everything else you can think of but nothing has done what Suboxone has done for me.

so before you believe what 'others' had to say, you may want to ask a few more people about their experience or maybe experience it on your own.
 
Again this is why im trying to get more informed. So duely noted "suboxone helps" haha. Ill see about getting a scrip.
 
if you want help then tell us what it is you do.

you say you are a heavy user; what does that mean? what do you even use? opiates like what? opana? heroin? you shoot? sniff? what do you shoot or sniff or eat? how often have you been using? same goes for the amphetamines. are you using those daily as well? is that something you will have to worry about as well? because opiates and amphetamines are 2 totally different addictions and both will send you down a different path of withdrawal.

you ever think of just going to detox and telling them whats up?

I can understand why some would say this, if they are speaking of the end result. I used for nearly a decade (pills some first, then just heroin), then i went and got a script for suboxone. I was thinking i could take this and quickly taper down and just be done with little to no withdrawals. Def not the case for me, and some others it seems. Suboxone is amazing to me still though because it instantly makes me feel like iv never done heroin, and i can just go about life doing "normal" things and not even think of wanting to use/get cravings. But it hasnt been easy to come off of like i thought. Iv been on it for a few years now. I started with 3 8mg strips a day (honestly it was too much lol) and im down to 2mg a day. Iv been trying to go lower for a year but i keep going back to the 2mg. The withdrawals are just as bad, if not worse, for me. And i sweat it out every single night, and its so hard to get out of bed just to walk over to the dresser and take my morning dose. I constantly want to take more than im supposed to throughout the day as well, but thats completely in my head because i actually feel fine all day if i stay awake.

Anyway, if its something you are interested in, def look into it. But if you are serious about getting clean and can just go cold turkey or taper down with the heroin and jump off, id personally go that route and just be done with it. I know that sickness, but in all seriousness, i wish thats what i would have done instead...just stuck it out. I wasnt aware of what i would be like on and trying to come off of the suboxone. But thats just me, ofcourse.
 
Thanks, and yea im taking the tapering down on H route. (Although i cant lie and say i havent done more than i needed to, just to supress the withdrawal)
But it is signifently getting less and less. But i keep get cold sweats, and dont know why since im still getting my opiate dose?
In regards to the crystal though i have'nt been able to really quit or tapper on that yet. I feel like when im off crystal im kinda akward and say things i normally wouldnt say. When im on it though i honistly feel normal! Like thats how im supposed to be. And weird thing is that i dont look like a user at all...
 
BTW i did tell you all what i use if u read my thread. I also told you all my daily dose....haha

But incase u need to read it again i use 3 stamp baggies of black tar H cut with diphenhydramine so i can snort it.
And also use about 4 dub bags of crystal buy injection. Daily
 
I felt like that on H, like its how i was supposed to be. Much easier to talk to people and work a job, be myself, etc. I dont leave my house much anymore with the subs not giving me that.

Are you getting the cold sweats throughout the day or while you sleep? I get them while i sleep even if i take a full dose before sleeping. Havent figured out why yet. Ill get them during the day if i get anxious and think about withdrawals though, but only then. So im not sure...maybe you feel good enough with your dose but its still just your body reacting to the lesser amount. Or something?
 
Yea ill get it while i sleep and ill waje up with shortness of breth and cold sweats. Also, and this is kinda emberassing ill have lime random ass moments when out of no where ill startcrying for no reason
 
I randomly cry for about 30 seconds at a time throughout the day. I assume its from the depression though but havent really thought about it alot. Thatd be weird if it were related to withdrawals/drug use though!

Not sure about the shortness of breath! Havent experienced that before other than from anxiety. Maybe see a doctor just to get your overall health checked out? I just had mine done tuesday because iv been having heart palpitations. Resting heart rate keeping steady around 107-110 for 5+ hours at a time. They dont know why yet so im getting a moniter.

I really dont know anything about crystal so im useless when it comes to that! Though i havent been much help at all really lol i would like to see someone answer about the cold sweats though because it happens to me too.
