Hey Bikki_Muncher,
Just one thing first, you know Indian visas are only valid for 6 months from the date they are issued? And they have been strictly enforcing a new rule the past few years to stop people doing visa runs to Nepal etc, getting another visa and going right back - they will not allow you to re-enter India on a new visa unless at least 2 months have passed since you left. And I got a bit confused, you said you don;t plan on taking drugs, but that you might want a spliff or some opium after the flight, and some stuff about ketamine!!! Anyway, here's my 2 cents worth on the subject of drugs in India!!
I have no idea about ketamine, never taken it before, but it's possible you may be able to pick it up at a pharmacy in India without a prescription. Note also that counterfeit pharmaceuticals are said to be rife throughout India. Just make sure you're dressed reasonably respectably when you go to the pharmacy. If the first pharmacy says no, just go to another one, someone is bound to sell you what you're after eventually
if they have it. Money talks. And the dressing and looking respectable also helps if you have any other stuff in your possession - you do not want to mess with Indian police. Looking respectable will help.
If you were unfortunate enough to get busted with anything, which is highly unlikely, ask the cop if you could pay him the 'fine' on the spot. Maybe they'll take a bribe. And they probably won't be happy with $50, do whatever you can to get more cash and give them whatever they want if you end up in this situation - you do NOT want to end up in an Indian prison!! People spend years in prison just waiting to go to trial, the wheels of justice move very slowly there. And I think a minimum sentence would be 5-10 years. Not trying to make you paranoid though, I've been to India many many times, doing all manner of stuff and never had a problem. I'm usually being respectable but sometimes things are just too tempting to pass up%) I'm a woman though which I think helps and I look pretty respectable! And I'm not stupid or reckless that helps too. You sound like you're pretty together so just use your street smarts and be careful.
Charas (hash) is far more widely available in my experience than buds. I have seen plants growing by the roadside etc but never anything that you'd bother with smoking, more suitable for making ropes I think. I never bother with the green stuff anyway, I don't smoke that anymore anyway, but can't pass up a bit of charas if I'm in India! Usually it's sold in 10 gram blocks (10 grams will usually be referred to as a tola). And drugs are generally
NOT tolerated in India, (esp not by the police nor by 'respectable' Indians) unless you're a sadhu and/or smoking charas or bhang for religious reasons. There are certain places, Jaisalmer for eg where you'll find government bhang shops. So you're fine getting something there (unless you look at how grotty the biscuits look haha) They'll sell bhang, which is basically crap leafy weed, sometimes they'll have bhang biscuits etc, or make bhang lassis. Other towns that attract a lot of hippy dickhead tourists will have bhang lassis on the menu (sometimes referred to as a "special lassi"

) if in doubt just ask what's in a special lassi, and they'll tell you if it's bhang. They can hit hard, hahaha, but as long as you're not a novice you'll be fine. It can be pretty funny after having one to just sit on the street and watch the world go by. But India is crazy and amazing enough without drugs
H is available, and pretty cheap, and it's always brown. Last time I was there though I got some on one occasion; it looked like gear, tasted like gear, but I have no idea what it was - did nothing. When I was a crazy young thing I'd be in the Mumbai slums alone scoring at night - can't believe I used to do shit like that

Opium doesn't seem to be as common as it used to be, I think the push by alcohol companies to get Indians off their traditional drugs and onto a nastier one - booze, may be working and have something to do with it. That's my theory anyway! 20 years ago drinking was pretty rare and done in dingy drinking dens (these type of 'pubs' can still be found and are well worth a look and a beer, just not if you're female and alone, not advisable!) but now there are billboards everywhere advertising alcohol, TV is full of celebrities advertising it. But I'm sure people in the mountain areas and more remote villages still use opium to kill the pain after a day of back breaking work.
Have had some very good MDMA (real stuff, damn I wish we could get some in Aus these days

) in Goa, for sure that will be around. Coke seems to be around a lot in India these days too. The growing Indian middle class no doubt fuelling demand.
You'll have an incredible time - India is an amazing place, I've been back so many times I've spent almost 3 years there over the past 20 years. The thing you
really need to be careful of is the traffic if you'll be on a bike. India has the highest per capita road death toll in the world. Traffic has to be seen to be believed. Insane. Stay off the roads at night and make sure your horn is in good working order and as loud as hell!!!
