Half-asleep within my box,
I can't ignore the cracks
or the eerie light that bleeds on through,
the passing shadows interrupting the flow,
or the scratching, taps and knocks
upon the wall,
much less the call
of countless haunting voices
a gust of winter wind, a frigid breath
upon my hot and sweating back
and I know,
I know its all doomed to collapse,
fall to pieces all around me,
as with wide open, unblinking eyes,
as with mind, electrified,
I die, this thick skin
bathed in light,
I die as this armor peels away
like curled toes before a cold tide
that rose only to kiss them,
betraying me,
leaving nothing
nothing left to hide
nothing left of mine
that does not belong to the world.
I can't ignore the cracks
or the eerie light that bleeds on through,
the passing shadows interrupting the flow,
or the scratching, taps and knocks
upon the wall,
much less the call
of countless haunting voices
a gust of winter wind, a frigid breath
upon my hot and sweating back
and I know,
I know its all doomed to collapse,
fall to pieces all around me,
as with wide open, unblinking eyes,
as with mind, electrified,
I die, this thick skin
bathed in light,
I die as this armor peels away
like curled toes before a cold tide
that rose only to kiss them,
betraying me,
leaving nothing
nothing left to hide
nothing left of mine
that does not belong to the world.
