So, how to do it? Would be grateful if you guys share your experiences. Also suggest me some books and useful articles if you can.Btw I feel seriously aversive about the positive attitude thing.

Well, it's not always easy. I think part of it is about reframing your thoughts from negative to positive. Changing the ways that you look at things. For example, I need to lose weight and exercise will help with my anxiety. I don't usually feel like walking. Why should I walk? Why can't I be skinny and healthy again anyways? That's not going to happen that way, by doing nothing. I know when I walk, I feel decent. I have two dogs that like to walk, even if it's for a little while, after being in the house all day. If go for a walk, I will feel less anxious, my mind will wander to better topics, I will start to lose weight, my dogs will have fun and get healthy, too. Instead of looking at walking like a burden, etc., I am looking at it like a benefit for me.

In my very limited experience, fear seems to have a stomach. The more you pay attention to it, reflect about it and hesitate, the more you feed the fear, the more able it is to incapacitate you.

The strongest weapon against it is to take away the feeding mechanism. Acting impulsively, before a single thought can enter your mind. Fear is irrational but you rationally feed the fear, so acting irrationally, entirely impulsively, will defeat it always. Some people do have a tremendous amount of trouble being spontaneous thought, gladly I don't.

In other words, like some guy working for Nike said it much better than I could : Just fucking do it.

sexNcandy - I like your post, especially the first paragraph. Very good advice. Thanks for posting it.

Fear can be both good and bad IME. Too much fear can lead into paranoia, anxiety and hypochondria or in short, negative thoughts. Without fear can lead into hedonism and irrational decisions. The most important question is how the fear negatively impacts your life, your well being? What do you fear OP?

Sexandcandy brought up a really good point: taking away the feeding mechanism. Think of how you can stop this and step by step try to note these down and how you can slowly improve in fighting your fear.

Emotions that we resist persist.

Meditate. Feel the fear. Entirely and completely.

The roots of the fear easily arise once we stop resisting. Do you fear failure or success?

read the flinch by julien smith

start taking cold showers, do things you think would make you uncomfortable, without letting yourself debate it in your head

There is no courage without fear. Fear is locked into our genetic code for good reason. Without it we could not survive. But the rational mind must weigh whether a particular fear is worthy of submission; courage is the rational mind saying "fuck it" because the reward of overcoming the fear is so much greater than giving in to it. Close your eyes and dive in the deep end cuz you already know how to swim.

Really great stuff right here and anyone can apply this daily. I think really looking at yourself and finding out the real core of why your in fear goes hand and hand with this. People can run their whole lives based on fear and not even know it.

Sometimes when we really look at ourselves we can figure out why we fear something and sometimes that it is totally different then what we thought.

Along with postive thinking and just doing it attitude will get you through anything. The more you do it, the easier it will get, and you will see how fear kept you from doing so much

Depends what the fear is about. Is it about avoiding shame and embarrassment? Is it about lack of safety and security?

If fear is holding you back, the nearest useful emotion (energetically speaking) is anger. Anger is a step below courage and many steps above fear. It's the gateway to courage because it's the closest useful emotion to empowerment. It gets you taking action and feeling like you can do something about your situation.

Of course, don't stay in anger forever. If you can stay in courage once you're there, courage is much more positive than anger. I'm just saying, to get out of fear, getting angry is useful.

rational fears can be countered with training/preparation. irrational fears can be countered with exposure. i don't see why it needs to get any more complicated than that.

before I have to give a big presentation or something, I always tell myself to relax and repeat the phrase:

"there is nothing to fear but fear itself"

most of the time, people aren't even paying 100% attention anyway / don't care what you have to say

I'll echo ilikestims and say feel the fear. Do not be afraid of being afraid. It is so innocent, like a puppy or kitten.

Fear is natural. Usurp it.

Fear-->excitement

Underneath fear is curiosity.

Courage is not the absence of fear.

Absorb the fear and do it anyway. Tremble if you must.

That is courage.

Hey .. possibly the biggest wuss ever :)

I remember a quote i read when i was a kid; "Fear and delight grow on one stalk." dont know who wrote it though

sexNcandy is right.

I am currently working on myself and trying to be positive about most of the things, however it is not always easy. Today I had my moment as well, I was re-thinking too many things and was stuck with the thoughts of negativity, so I acted impulsively to change it.
I always think to myself "If I'd do this I would be so much better, but maybe I am not good eno..." ....FCK IT AND DO IT LOL. Just go for it, start jumping, clear your thoughts and force yourself to stay positive.

Everybody carries some fear. Most people are insecure.

Think about this, 9 out of 10 business presentations made today, the main goal of the presenter was not to sell their product. No, dude just wanted to get out of the meeting without looking like a dumbass.

I can't tell you how to conquer your fears but if you can face em and push thru - the world is yours for the taking.
