Hello everyone, you can call me Clay. I'm an alcoholic. I love music and dancing and meeting new people, sharing ideas, confronting my own ideas. I'm coming up on three years of not drinking in two weeks and I'm really happy. I attend AA, but I don't call myself sober because I smoke pot. I love AA and everything it has done for my drinking and my thinking, I started it in San Francisco where I was living at that time. AA helped carry me through a difficult break up and cross-country relocation; I'm pursuing a career in the medical field that I would never have imagined possible. Now, however, I find groups in south florida to be a bit more conservative with their views on pot so much so that any honest discussion about the subject is hampered be refusals to acknowledge the topic, so i'm appealing to a broader community online for more support (or productive criticism).
To make matters worse, I'm a trans queer male, and find that the rooms here in florida are filled with backward thinking alpha male types who don't understand that they're so steeped in their own bullshit that they can't see it right in front of them. Anyway, before this devolves entirely into a rant, I'll just say that I am open to discussions about recovery generally, queer/trans recovery topics, cannabis policy in the U.S., and alcoholism. Things like opiate use and mdma use I can talk about anecdotally, but I don't know anything about recovery from narcotics and am not a frequent mdma user.
