Hey everyone,

I've been a lurker of the forums for awhile, but rarely post. However I need to get this out there, and I don't think its a new topic....

I've lived in Manhattan for about 6 months. I moved here just in time to go to Electric Zoo, which was fantastic. I never knew Chemical Brothers were so good (and I'm glad I do now). I unfortunately never made it to Love, but every since I've been trying to find as much progressive and trance that I can. Honestly, that's resulted in more than my share of nights at Pacha, and a few scattered nights at WH, Cielo, Sullivan, and D36.

At the very least, I've seen some good shows.... Ferry, Kaskade, Gareth, Cosmic Gate (last week), and Dirty South come to mind. But it's not enough.. I've had to take a trip or two down to Glow in DC when there was nothing here.

Finding good E is hard enough (for clarity I'm not asking here), but I find it even harder to find the music unless really big acts come into town. The crowd is obviously here - Pacha is packed, even if it is B&T and they're far from the best club to dance at (in my opinion). To even add to my confusion, I see TONS of shows happening, listed all over RA, etc. But not only do I not know who the DJs are (thats OK, I'll learn), but I have NO idea what style of music they are. That's fine, I understand you dont want to just name a genre, but for a new guy to the city, I have no inside knowledge and I'm pretty lost. I know that Basic NYC is house, and Blkmarket is minimal tech (I think?) but that's about as far as I've gotten. I just don't understand, either I'm not looking in the right places or haven't been here long enough.

Maybe some of you have some insight. Where is all the progressive & trance in NY? What promotors or event companies should I know about? Who's list should I be on? I just want to dance! :)

Thanks.

I hadn't been to any great parties in nyc for a long time, but on Thanksgiving weekend I accidentally ended up at a party at Brooklyn Crossroads Supper Club...was put on by Beat Samsara. Had never heard of either, but the venue was perfect, the music fantastic, and the crowd was great. When all the stars are aligned, it really makes for the kind of party that keeps me coming back for more...even if it seems like they're less and less frequent nowadays.

Anyway, I googled the same production company and they're putting on an event Feb. 12th called Fractal Love...check out greenapplesnyc.com for details. I think some of the djs are the same, but I'm not super familiar with any of them. I'm only considering checking it out cause the last party was so great. The venue is different, but i've been to where they're having it. This venue tends to draw a younger crowd, which was not the case at the last party, so I hope it doesn't this time.

Also Feb. 12th is Tom Midddleton at Sullivan Room, so it'll be a toss up which to go to.

@georgewc2001 Thanks for that info.. that Valentine's day weekend party looks interesting.

@Unbreakable. Thanks for the event details...

Is the underground trance scene here mostly focused on psy trance? I'm not even totally sure I know what psy trance is.. a bit darker, faster? :)

Any other promotors/lists I should know of?

Also, I stumbled across something called Trance Mansion. Looks like a few guys already tried to bring a night of Trance to WH, but doesnt look like it worked out. They have 4k Facebook fans, but weren't able to make it?

To answer my own thread.. I did find Massive Events.... seems like they host mostly Trance? MIKE and Roger Shah / Ryan Tyas are coming up....

check out electric zoo in sept. besides that, not a huge fan of the NYC scene.

also, take a 3 hour car ride to camp bisco upstate....tons of fun.
