I'm asking the fucking questions!
i took 500mgs tramadol today and im having difficulty urinating, the effects are still present though, should i be ok when the effects wear off? / what should i do?

thanks, nolys

I have not experienced any urinary difficulties from tramadol and my current doses are 500 mg, 500 mg, and 400 mg daily. I do hear that it is something some have to deal with. I can piss like the proverbial "Russian Racehorse"! But this doesn't really help YOU. I am going to say that once enough is out of your body your urine stream should improve.

Opiates are well known for causing urinary retention. This will pass as the effects fade.

Yep, I got this with tramadol too. T also gave me cotton mouth, so I had to drink enough to fight that a bit but not so much my stomach felt like it would explode(or like I would throw up, if I can't piss it out then it often seems to come back up through my mouth!).

I take Tramadol frequently because of back pain and I usually have a little bit of urinary retention for a few hours. After some time goes by then I am able to go again with no problem.

Tramadol is still an opie(imo better than codeine) so as said it can cause difficulties there. Your all good though.

Howdy...I'm a daily tramadol user and I've dealt with this urinary problem for awhile. Yes, it slows down the peeing...its just part of the deal. So, here's some advice that sounds simple but might be hard to follow: BE PATIENT WHILE YOU ARE PEEING!! LET IT ALL OUT!! Since the pee is coming out so slow, its easy to just sort of...stop and get on with your day. And that is not good for your kidneys. Let it dribble, brother. (and sisters)

its ok i came out fine:D
Little trick for anybody whos having trouble urinating whilst on Tram - get warm water on your bellend / under the foreskin for around 10 seconds and you should pee just fine ;)

When speaking of urinary problems, are you talking about not being able to urinate, or does it hurt to urinate, do you feel like your straining to urinate? I ask this because I have been on tramadol for 10 years, with the last 5 being exclusively tram. I can't say that I have experienced any problems with this function. I do know that I cannot "hold back" like I did when younger. Now at natures call I have to go RIGHT NOW as there is no later for me. Perhaps this is disquising any problems I may have?

Happens to me with any opiate I take, some more than others. Morphine does it horribly. It will pass, but in (lots of) time. Nothing to be worried about, you WILL urinate. Sometimes I find myself sitting on the toilet for several minutes and seriously having to concentrate VERY hard to go to the bathroom :| Be patient, haha.

Just "push through it". It will go away after the Tramadol wears off. Always does. It will be just like normal soon.
If it becomes too uncomfortable,
Some people find that putting a heating pad over their bladder helps. And of course running some water while you try never hurt.

Like someone else has mentioned, you can try sitting. It really does help by putting pressure on your bladder and letting you relax while you're waiting for it to come out, and the more relaxed you are the easier it is to pee.
Another trick is to take your mind off the fact that you're having trouble peeing.. this might sound stupid but it works for me.. try counting in your head by odd numbers 1,3,5,7,9,11 etc. (count slow) and concentrate on the counting instead of peeing and usually by the time you get into the 30's your peeing :)

Happening to me right now. Very normal... Just 200mg of tramadol can do this to me. Annoying, isn't it? I usually just sit down or run the tap and that gets things flowing, but it takes a good ten seconds which is slightly embarrassing, lol.

Urine retention while on tramadol is normal. What often works for me is: lay down on your couch or bed, and totaly relax all your muscles. Focus on doing this until there is no tention left in your body. Soon after you should start to feel like you can pee. When this happens slowly get up and head to the bathroom (be carefull not to flex your groin muscles), then carefully sit on the toilet, legs somewhat spread and arms to your side. If this works for you like it does for me, you should then start urinating.

Are you prescribed 500 mg? That seems a bit high to me, I was getting 50 mg taking three times a day. 8o

If I understood that post correctly he takes 1400mg per day. Seems astronomically high, considering tramadol can cause seizures at doses above 400mg. The highest I've ever been on was around 500mg daily after months of daily use.

I find reading a magazine helps. The more you think about pissing the harder it seems to achieve.

It sucks, I've spent hours in the bathroom thinking "this is what my weekend is going to be?"

MXE does the same shit to me as well.
