Hi.
I'm new at this. I had a knee operation over the summer. They gave me Tramadol 50 mg. It didn't help so I went back and asked for something more powerful. They gave me Percocets. It barely took care of it unless I took more than it said to take. After it ran out, instead of going and asking for more, I started using Oxycontin. My uncle passed away last summer and in cleaning out his house, I found a whole bunch of Oxycontin 80's that I took home with me. There were probably 200 of them, he must have been refilling before he ran out and had a stockpile of them. I was taking 3-4 a day. It was like an alarm clock - about 6 hours after taking one, the pain would start coming back, plus I'd wake up in pain. When I decided to stop since my knee wasn't killing me (no more "alarm clock") anymore, I stopped. I didn't think this was a massive amount to be taking, but when I stopped, I started getting sick, ringing in my ears followed my sweats and all the other nasty stuff I've read about on the internet.
I want to get off this stuff now, so here's my question. If I chuck the rest of the Oxycontins and just cut back to using the Tramadol and then wean off them, will that prevent me from getting sick? I can't find a consistent answer on the internet anywhere. The idea would be to use the Tramadols if I get sick, and then decrease them until I'm done. Some websites say that it's an opiate which makes me think this would work, others say Tramadol doesn't work on the same receptions in the brain, which makes me this it wouldn't work. Before I flush the Oxycontins, I want to make sure I won't be in a world of sickness. I most definitely do NOT want to tell my doctor or anyone else about any of this.
Does anyone know?
Thank you!
