Title says it all really, iv been having trouble sleeping recently and my exams at 9am. would the negative effects of a 50mg dose outweigh the negative effects of having a sleepless night? would take some 5-htp with it aswell to induce dreams as i find a dreamless sleep to be less restful than having dreams/ cheers

In my experience tramadol has a somewhat stimulating effect, you'd be better of with just the 5htp imo and if you don't sleep enough maybe take the tramadol before the exam. I've done that recently with some success.

Tramadol to help you sleep? lol

More like tramadol to help you not sleep.

It will help to pull an allnighter with, as it has NE reuptake properties, 5-HT releasing properties, and opioid properties from the O-Desmethyltramadol. The 5-HT release makes it more relaxing than regular stimulants.

Also, tramadol already releases 5-HT, so I wouldn't use 5-HTP (5-HT precursor), could be dangerous at high doses of tramadol, although you should be alright at 50mg tram.

Opioids are poor choices to use as sleep aids, tramadol doubly so. Opioids are stimulating in nature, due to the indirect release of DA (dopamine), which breaks down in to NE (norepinephrine). They are classified as "CNS depressants," but many find they cause insomnia and stimulation.
