Hey there, I'm new here.
I've got scoliosis, my spine bends and twists in every direction, and I've got stainless steel harrington rods holding my spine up. I've got several fusions that have all fractured and need revisions. My surgery was 10 years ago. Revision surgery coming up to replace the rods and repair the fusions. Haven't been in a great mood lately, been at a constant 8 for pain for 2 weeks now. Depression and chronic pain aside, I've been smoking (vaporizing, really) marijuana both for recreational use and to manage my pain.
I've got a 3 month old daughter and it pains me that I'm not able to hold her for very long without aggravating my back. I obviously cannot smoke around her and yesterday I hit a low point with my pain and depression, so I reached out and found a clinic and got a prescription for Tramadol.
In the past, I haven't reacted good to opiates or any narcotics for that matter, and most recently I've been taking tylenol-3 with codeine, caffeine etc. and I find the nausea just isn't worth my trouble, and I would much rather smoke and stay productive than pop a pill and feel worse overall. So they gave me the Tramadol, saying that I should be able to work and deal with the minor side effects.
I've taken one Tramadol so far, 37.5mg i guess, and its made me feel sick to the point of gagging and lurching over the sink. I'm hesitant to take another one because I hate this feeling, but need to deal with my pain somehow and get back to work today (I'm a developer, able to work from home) so I'm ready to just pack a bowl and get on with my day.
Is it safe to vaporize marijuana while on Tramadol? How long do opiates stay in your system? I'm not looking to get high I just need to take the edge off this pain so I can concentrate on code. In the past I've taken perkacet, oxycontin, morphine, codeine, and demorol to deal with this, which the doctors are all happy to dish out, but all of them have an undesirable side effect of some sorts; and when it comes to getting a prescription for something like marinol, which is THC in a capsule form, I'm looked at like some sort of heretic.
What can I do?
