Opioids tramadol/loperamide and swelling of face

since being off bupe for several months now ive been using some lighter opioids for dealing with the paws, mostly loperamide and tramadol, and here's the deal...

this morning i noticed some swelling underneath my eyes and under my cheeks. i'm guessing this may be an allergic reaction to the loperamide or tramadol so i am not going to use them anymore as it could be a sign of serious problem. i also came down with a nasty case of tonsilitis recently, so it could be linked to that rather than the loperamide or tramadol, or perhaps they are all tied together. either way my use of both will stop until i figure this one out. have any of you BLers heard of or had an experience like this with tramadol and/or loperamide?

regardless, i dont want to take any chances so im going to make a trip to the doctor as soon as i can to discuss this and also perhaps getting back on suboxone. i am just curious if anyone else has seen or heard of minor swelling in the cheeks and/or around eyes after tramadol or loperamide use. any ideas what this may be if it is linked to these chemicals?

note: loperamide doses are from 40mg to 100mg, once or twice a week. tramadol is a daily thing, not exceeding 400mg per day, though its been *very* scarce in the past month.

one other thought is dehydration due to the electrolyte imbalance that loperamide may cause. thanks for any info ya'll might have.

A quick Google search with the term: "Tramadol and facial swelling"; turned up many results! Ween off of it or stop it, whichever someone chimes in and says is safer. I have heard, and not to scare you, that tramadol suddenly ceased, can cause seizures... (Sounds like taking too much Tramadol too eh?)

i think it was the loperamide, not the tramadol. i've since stopped taking it (loperamide) and the swelling went away. my throat infection seems to be fading away also.

i've noticed this before while taking loperamide, but i thought i was dehydration; it wasn't nearly as noticeable. like i said, my tramadol use has been minimal for almost a month, with none in the past week. perhaps my body was fighting it (loperamide/metabolites) like a viral infection.

after a lot of research i've become a bit weary of even mild doses of this substance (loperamide). i'm starting to think there is a real good reason why p-glycoprotein pumps this outside of cells. there has been some documentation on metabolites of loperamide that are similar to compounds known to cause parkinson's in primates (death of cells and/or inability to produce catecholamines within substantia nigra of brain). not to mention severa; associated deaths and overdoses with it (loperamide), regardless of what other substances were involved.

id like to take some loperamide but i wont. hopefully this is the end of my seemingly endless opioid bender. i am really interested if anyone has experienced any these side effects to any degree with loperamide (swelling/flushing/itchyness not of opioids). thanks...
