Opioids Tramadol Legality

I've posted before about seeking Tramadol before but in this thread I am wondering about the legality of it in the US.
Google searches turn up conflicting information from the past few years so I thought the best course of action was to come to a trusted forum and ask outright.
What is Tramadol's legal status in the US and would it be possible to obtain it from a pharmacy in texas without a prescription?
Should I trust ordering from online pharmacies if I don't have a prescription?

In the US you do not need a perscription for tramadol, I thought you were only allowed a certain amount without perscription but I ordered well over 1,000 tramadol once from an online pharmacy and customs did open up my package and still gave it to me...

I'm mostly just wanting to know about the legal status and if it's changed any in the recent years.

pretty certain you do need a scrip to get it from any pharmacy in the US. But i know of people that order it online all the time.
