Tramadol, I just do not get it.

I have heard and seen soooo many people and posts talking about how tramadol is their DOC or how they want pure O-desmethyltramadol. I just do not get it. It is so weak, it's an analogue of codeine, and is more structurally similar to Effexor XR than and opiate AND has SNRI properties. Can someone please explain to me why people would prefer tramadol (which can cause seizures) to other stronger opiates that do no have the same risk of seizures and serotonin storm?
 
i dont think theres anyone who prefers tramadol to heroin or fentanyl or other good opiates (oxymorphone, hydromorphone).
some just like to take them when they are in opiate WDs.
 
people are all different, and have different tastes in what they would call their DOC.
why? do you want those people on a weak painkiller to start on oxy or start banging dope instead?
i say good for them that they enjoy a less hardcore drug, even though the w/d's from it are worse because of its antidepressant effects on the brain.

Yea I suppose. One time There were some 50mg ultrams in my bag and this guy traded at a 1:1 ration for 30mg roxies. came with 36 ultram, left with 36 30mg roxies. I did not mind ONE bit
 
I took 400 mg's while I was really dope sick and I was almost 100% back to normal from them,withdrawals like 90% gone.I'd say there good to have around for just that purpose.I think alot of people like it because of it's unique effects.very stimulating opiate type buzz,with a sort of instant anti depressent type high.I actually get a little euphoria from them, and I shoot morphine and dilaudid.

BINGO.

Believe me, I like the more robust opiates myself (oxymorphone and heroin, specifically), but I was very much surprised by my first experience with tramadol. First, I had no idea that I would feel anything at all, having already developed a considerable tolerance to the stronger opiates. It wasn't so much the typical warm and fuzzy, nodding out sort of high that I was used to, and it wasn't exactly the more stimulating high that many find oxycodone to evoke, but it was what I can only describe (and what OntarioGuy has described here) as a sort of "instant anti depressant" type high. Suddenly, I have a more positive outlook on life, and I feel more confident, more motivated, etc. It was like taking an anti depressant, but one that worked immediately.

I'll grant you that I do not go looking to score tramadol, but it's a nice surprise whenever I come across a couple, and that's coming from someone who is looking forward to scoring half a bun of some very good dope tomorrow morning. Speaking of, is it tomorrow morning yet? *sigh*
 
I've taken them with a few Kpins before. the 50mg ones, took 7 of them. They were alright. Nothing special to me. Opana (Oxymorphone) is my DOC.

I get prescribed 240 oxy 5mg IR capsules a month, along with 150 tramadol 50mg pills. i also love dope. it's my DOC. i use the oxys to pass the time without my dope (which only happens when i have no money). when i run out of my oxies and dope i turn to my trammies. i don't ever take them unless i'm absolutely out of everything else.

and DAMN do those trammies take care of ALL my withdrawals and negative feelings. i pretty much never have to encounter the negative consequences from using because of this drug. I absolutely LOVE it.

and if it's anti-sick help wasn't enough, i can also take it with suboxone. the two synergize great together. trams and box together (in high enough doses) can actually help me get to sleep like a nod from fire d. and i have a nasty habit/tolerance. i'll put 3 bags in the spoon when i wake up. eat breakfast. then two more bags within 30 minutes. i'll pretty much go through 2 bundles a day when possible lol <3<3<3
 
I will admit, Tramadol (in fact when we were desperate we'd call ppl asking for Tram passes hahhaaha ) DID save me from withdrawals on NUMEROUS occaisions and because its a serotonin releasing agent it makes you feel better. I just dont understand why people would rather have that precribed to them than other things. Or why people are trying to obtain pure o-desmthyltramadol i think the metabolite is?

I love tramadol...but to pass heroin or oxycontin for it? No...tramadol is easy for me to get. Much less difficult (and expensive) than to go strolling for the others all day. But to pick trams over OC's? Nope, not me!

O-desmethyltramadol is nothing like tramadol though, so that is why people want that. It is the metabolite of tramadol that causes the euphoria and the nod. Some people like the anti-d effects from regular tramadol too and the SNRI effects.

Everyone reacts to different drugs in different ways, some people are going to enjoy tramadol, and some are not, as with everything YMMV.

This thread is really a question based on a matter of opinion and is not a straight forward question that can be given a factual answer, will just lead to endless speculation which is against the BDD Guidelines which are in my signature.

Carry on the conversation in the BDD Social and Information Booth v3 by all means, but it is not suited for it's own thread here in BDD.
