Hello,
I was prescribed Tramadol for pain and it helps with the pain quite a bit and I am digging the amped up speedy feeling. But it is getting late and I need to wind it down. I have taken .5 of clonazapam and a couple shots of NyQuil to take the edge off. Would it be ok to take another klonopin to try to get some sleep?
Thanks in advance.

Try sleep next time. That combo is dangerous, especially since you didn't get into tolerance, dosages, etc. Trouble with that combo is, it may work, do nothing or kill you.

Sure take the whole 1mg if u want , benzos also help the nod so u might wanna try .25 or .50 with a few more than prescribed for fun for a more downer affect l

Thanks. I ended up not taking any more benzo and was able to fall asleep. Have taken 100 mg of Tramadol today, not as jittery and it helps with the pain and lets me be productive too.
I have a very high tolerance to klonopin. Have been on it for 7 years for anxiety. Take 1-2 mg a day. Fairly high tolerance to codone and Tramadol. I like the mix of the two, of course keeping the dose low and spaced out.

Never mix nyquil with tramadol, it's incredibly dangerous. Nyquil preparations contain dextromethorphan which when combined with tramadol could potentially lead to serotonin syndrome. You're better off taking an antihistamine by itself next time.

There was a study I read a while back showing that doxylamine compared very well to prescription Z-drugs, though I personally think that's a bit of a stretch. Nonetheless it was the most effective otc sleep aid and the antihistamine in Nyquil is providing the majority of the sedation, so dropping DXM containing preparations shouldn't change much (if anything).

Thanks {Plasticity}, for correcting this thread. I am going to check into that Doxylamine myself due to its possible bit of a stretch, similar relation to the Z drugs.

I'm not sure of the OP drug combo but I know benzo's and opiates together are a big no no. I once took a couple of Xanax tablets and then smoked some heroin and I passed out and slept for like 32 hours straight, in hindsight I was lucky I woke up at all

From what I have gathered since Tramadol has low seizure threshold and clonazapam is used for seizures, it can help to avoid that side effect. Something I plan to look into more before combining the two again.

benzos are safe with tramadol as they effect different neurotransmitters. but avoid getting a tolerance to tramadol at all costs

Benzos are much safer with tramadol then with more traditional opiates/opiods. Benzos actually can make tramadol safer by raising the seizure threshold.

In addition to DXM, NyQuil using has large amounts of benadryl, which I've personally found to cause a very unpleasant reaction, probably due to greatly elevated serotonin levels, when used alongside tramadol. Racing thoughts, general edginess, twitchiness, etc. Benadryl is a short acting SSRI, so combined with tramadols SNRI effects, this makes sense.

I avoid both benadryl and DXM when using tramadol.

Thank you for the feedback, Plasticity. I will never mix the two again.

Glad I could help :). Please remember to run drugs through an interaction checker when mixing drugs, especially ones you haven't mixed before. Had you taken a larger dose of DXM you could have potentially earned a trip to the hospital. All anecdotes say (legitimate) serotonin syndrome is incredibly unpleasant.

Keep in mind that doxylamine is an antihistamine, therefor it's much closer in effect to DPH (benadryl) and DMH (Gravol? I believe) than it is to z-drugs... it's effectiveness as a sleep aid was comparable, effects not so much. I find it much more sedating than DPH and DMH though.

And that Doxylamine has a much more "hypnotic" state, and /can/ make you feel groggy the day after from it's half-life (18 or so hours) I would say if you can find 25mg Doxylamine Succinate piils, I would break one in half, and just take ~12.5mg's of it.

And /always/ check to see if X Medication + X Medication is alright and doesn't leave you dead. Granted I don't know what "Three shots of NyQuil means" I'd also drink some Chamomile tea if you have problems going to sleep.

Yes Benzodiazepines and Opioids (in this case Clonazepam and Tramadol) hit different receptors, that doesn't mean much of anything. It's still very dangerous to take a high dose of either class of them. So keep those to the bare minimum. So enough to make you /think/ you can fall asleep/Just enough to take the pain away. A saying that my grandfather always said (Dunno if this is someone else's quote or not) it was "You know you're alive if you're feeling pain"
