idk if this breaks the rules. i hope not.

i have a EXTREMELY infected throat and i will be going to the ERgent care in a few hours. one of my friends had the same problem and he went and got a bottle of codeine, some antibiotics, and some shit that numbs your throat. the problem is i still live with my parents, and due to my past opiate problems they will not let me have anything narcotic in the house. if i tell the doc this and ask for something like tramadol would she give me it? or is this a reason for them not to prescribe it?

i am NOT trying to get high. my throat is so swollen i can hardly swallow. both sides of my neck are bulging out. im still going to go either way to get some antibiotics, but a pain med would help A LOT.

Not all doctors consider Tramadol a narcotic and will prescribe it as an alternative to drugs like codeine, hydrocodone and etc. Its also prescribed so they can avoid having to prescribe a scheduled drug that doctors can get into trouble with if over prescribing them. So its possible they may give it to you. But if you have an addiction problem and just have a swollen throat, no matter the severity, they may just prescribe you naproxen or ibuprofen with an antibiotic.

yeah ive been taking an old naproxen script for the past few days and it hasnt done shit. ive hardly slept too because it hurts my neck to even lay down. i just dont want to go in there and look like im trying to get drugs because that isnt my intention at all. thank you very much :)

If you are in legitimate pain the doctors will realize that, and hopefully medicate you properly. As for your parents, do you HAVE to tell them exactly what scripts you end up getting? Just curious, since if it means that you will have to suffer because of that I don't think it is exactly fair.

The other thing they might do is just dose you with prednisone at the doctors which will reduce the swelling right away a great deal. Then between antibiotics and naproxen your throat should be better able to heal.

They did this for me once with an extremely sore throat I had, and it worked like a charm.

Best of luck, and feel better.

unfortunately im on their insurance, so they will see everything i get. plus my mom is driving me to the doc and then the pharmacy when she gets home, and she already said that if i get a script for anything like that she wont take me to get it filled. its fucking bullshit because im fucking suffering haha.

and too bronson: will prednisone really help that much? i have and old script with like 5 left and if so im gonna go take a few.

thank you all for the replys. its fucked up that people i dont even know on the internet care about me more than my parents lol.

Prednisone has very potent inflammatory properties. So it won't actually make you better on its own, but it will reduce the swelling greatly for a time. Make sure to keep properly hydrated, and ibuprofen 800mg is actually better for sore throat pain than naproxen, though it would be advisable to wait until tomorrow if you have already been taking naproxen.

Also, high does ibuprofen is not technically advisable without the okay from a doctor or pharmacist, but maybe just give a call and they might be able to tell you if it would be okay to take given your circumstances.

Let us know how everything goes.

What if you were to get prescribed some narcotics and just tell them that they didn't, walk down to the pharmacy with like $15 and get it filled yourself.

Yeah exactly. Just pay out of your own pocket. A a script of percocet or vicoden is like 12 bucks with no insurance. cheap..

well im back. ive got fucking tonsillitis. they gave me Keflex and a numbing mouthwash. they didnt offer me anything for pain this time, but they told me if im not better in a few days they would write me a script for a different antibiotic and some tabs. if that happens ill probably just have a friend drive me to the pharmacy. i had no idea it would be that cheap. i honestly hope im better by then cause i really dont wanna go back to the doctor haha.
