Tramadol effects changing after a year

Hi Guys,

Basically I take 1 50mg tramadol a day for its antidepressant effect. This works well for me with zero side affects and after trying 5 different 'normal' antidepressants from fluoxetine to venlafaxine to mirtazipine it was welcome.
I also like take 4-6 50mg tablets on a saturday and sunday to relax with. I have never done any other opiates aside low dose (15mg tabs) Dihydrocodiene. I like tramadol as it relaxes me but leaves me in a state where I can still get stuff done. I don't like be out of it and definitely don't want to 'nod'. Seems like a waste of a good buzz if I fall asleep lol

Anyway, I have found that now after a year I still do not need a higher dose but I get a much stronger histamine response, ie itching! When using the higher dose at the weekend. I used to take 50mg doses over 4-6 hours but now I find that 2 100mg doses 3-4 hours apart gives me a better opiate feel after around 2 hours and lasts ages - 4 hours+. I find it strange in the past I have done the maximum 8 tablets and had no better high and less itching. It just seems odd as I would expect a tolerance to build and get less itching not more. Any ideas why this maybe?

Also I take tramadol for occasional neck pain (thats how I get the script) and if I get a flare up I take 1 50mg with 15mg dihydrocodiene on an empty stomach. These leaves me a bit spaced out but is a really low dose of DHC. The 50mg of tram wont do this alone. Just seems odd to me and was wondering if any one else has this with low doses or am I a bit odd????

No one have any idea why Tramadol feels stronger after so long instead of weaker? :(

I have almost the same confrontation with tramadol. I've taken it almost half a year now. I started with 50 mg a day and I LOVED it but it took 2 hours to work. Also when I took around 3 times I would get an amazing opiate Buzz and even a nod of sorts. Now, 6 months later, I take 150 mg each day and it takes only 30 MINUTES to work! But, now when I take a large dose that is a lot for my tolerance I get an amazing opiate Buzz for around 40 minutes after it kicks In, and then it all goes to shit. I get itchy as hell, like full on crazed out itchy and I become VERY irritated from pretty much EVERYTHING and I get so angry over the simplest non annoying thing. It really sucks how it changes its effects I can only assume it is from your body adapting to it (I.E why my body got used to digesting it and went from 2 hours to 30 minutes to kick in.) ALSO! A very BIG thing that happens is a lot of serotonin builds up in you and when you keep adding to with more tramadol it barely releases more serotonin to make you feel like when it used to make you feel amazing from higher doses, now it simply adds a small amount of serotonin and exaggerates the side effects ten-fold. The only thing you can really do to get back the amazing feeling of tramadol in high doses, is to go on a one or two month break without any serotonin, like I mean ANY serotonin I.E cough syrup (dxm) and any other SSRIs or other serotonin anti depressants the goal being to balance out the serotonin in your body and get rid of the mass build up of it from the tramadol. You might even want to ask your doc about something to balance the serotonin out faster than naturally. That's the only thing I could think that would cause the undortunate corruption of tramadol magic, but as I said, this is only what I know and expirenced, tramadol releases many compounds once digested so it is very complicated. I'm no tramad expert but this is the best of my knowledge. Anyways good luck man, you're not the only one to experience this tramadol conundrum. Once more, goodluck!

I've always said Tramadol should be given out by psychiatrists for depression.......its a great substitute to all the BS AD's out there.

Tramadol for me doesn't relax me like it does you......it does elevate my mood & make me feel great, but it also feels more like speed to me. If I take it 1 or 2 hours before bed, I won't be able to sleep.

I like to mix it in with hydrocodone.......the hydro kicks in & the tramadol takes its good ole time & comes in waves.......tramadol is a weird but clever drug.

Tramadol is very complicated, it splits into different compounds into your liver, its doesn't trigger your opiate receptors but mimics it which us actually kind of amazing. The only problem with it is the serotonin. Once you have too much serotonin in your body you become easily aggravated, sad, depressed, maybe happy, and joyful one sec and then BOOM back to depressed. If it didn't touch your serotonin it would be so much better in my opinion. And the weird thing is for some people it's and upper, for some, like myself, it's an amazing downer and gives a better feeling then most opiates, its a heavenly soft relaxing at peace serenity type of feeling unlike a drowsy not giving a shit nodding out type of high from most opiates. And for some people they get absolutely nothing out of it, not even analgesic. Tramadol is crazy complicated, but the serotonin ruins it for, it's the reason you can't take it for a year plus, you'll be so fucked up after it, you're serotonin will be so insanely unbalanced but for a month or two its awesome. After that, once the serotonin starts building, stop go clean and green for a month and repeat. Its what I do and it works great. In fact if I go 2 months without it and leave off on a 200ish tolerance, two months later, like right now the smallest amount, 50 mg gets me at pure heavenly peace for hours. Sadly only lasts a month. But tramadol is my all time favorite next to ganja, and yes I've tried many many popular things multiple times, but tramadol is my favorite. Lol the one positive thing about the serotonin in tramadol is makes music sound amazing to me.
