I've been given Tramadol for pain relief after cycling into a wall (I was distracted by a cat)

The box says a maximum dose of 150mg, the tablets are 50mg each.

Anyway, this isn't really doing a lot for the pain (dislocated shoulder), and was wondering whether it's possible to have more than 150mg? The pharmacist said to ask the doctor, and I can seem to find anything about dose...

supposedly, up to 400mg per day is safe. after that comes a very minor risk of seizures.

i've never heard any personal stories regarding the seizures though.

it would be interesting to hear what some have to say about tramadol seizures (what dose they took, how often they had been dosing, other medications, relative medical history, what the seizure was like, etc)

Ive taken as much as 400mgs through out the day & you're right, Tramadol sucks for pain........what I use to do is take an Advil with every 2 Trams I would take. They compliment each other. Your doctor should have given you vicodin for the pain but you can thanks the DEA for scaring doctors into thinking they are drug dealers if they prescribe the right medication.

I have taken up to 900mg at once. I do NOT recommend ANYONE take this high of a dose. I have a natural body tolerance to opiates. You need to be careful upping the dose as it will lower your seizure threshold. Weed can help reduce the chance of a seizure, but the psychological high of mixing marijuana and tramadol is VERY intense and is not for the weak hearted. Be prepared to feel like you are standing in a magnitude 10 earthquake for the next hour (you wont be actually shaking it will just feel like you are). Again, do NOT take 900mg. Start at 150mg and work your way up 50mg at a time until you find a happy dose. Be prepared for an intense high if you plan to smoke marijuana with it.

so sad, but true. Tramadol for acute pain injury like that? come on.... at least some hydrocodone

I took 250mg in total yesterday, seems to have done the trick.

Fell asleep in the cinema though.

Doctors in the UK don't really seem to give out painkillers very willingly, at first they have me paracetamol and codeine, and I had to go back as it didn't work.

for some reason the less i take the better i feel.i take a 100mg tab abd don't really feel shit.i take a 50mg tab and feel it in 15minutes.gets me to where i wanna be and takes away the pain in my knees from squatting so much.weird drug.most i've taken is 2 50mg in a day.stuff builds up a tolerance tho.

I have a seizure disorder, and I still take tramadol in small doses. I have a lot of joint pain and a messed up back from years of dancing adding to a spin curvature. I prefer norco or vicodin (my drug of choice) but we all know how hard it is to get a script for those these days. I only get the trammies because my step dad takes them and he's sharing.
I take a risk every time I take them, but its either seizure risk, or be miserable with pain. If those asshole docs just knew that vics would do me a world of good and not lower my seizure threshold, maybe they would help me. I hate doctors.
I never take more than 100 to 150m. I'd be scared to take more. I've had some twitches and what u would call seizure activity--but I have them alll the time anyway. I think the worst side effect for me is headaches...but oh well...I'd prefer to be pain free and feel better.

you could throw a benzos in the mix to stop the seizure risk / decrease threshold. OF COURSE LOW DOSES because mixing two CNS depressants isn't a good idea

may be 150-200mg of tram plus 1-2mg clonazepam? you can do some tweaks there and find your sweet spot. tramadol is a pro-drug and some people get very little from it because not enough of the tramadol is converted to its ative metabolite, O-desmethyltramadol, but if you're one who does convert a lot, then i assume you're gonna be able to catch an opiate buzz from it.

edit: wtf this thread is 2 years old
