Tramadol chest pain

I'm currently in the process of detoxing myself from opiates by doing an obnoxiously slow codeine taper in the hopes that a few months of steady dose reduction will get my receptors and the like back to normal. A few days ago I didn't have time to do my normal extraction before work, so I popped three 37.5/325 Tramacets my friend had given me instead. Wasn't expecting to feel anything (currently at about 250mg of codeine once a day), but I actually caught a bit of a buzz off it. About an hour after I took them, though, I started noticing a sharp pain in my chest similar to when I partially collapsed my lung but not as bad. It was still pretty painful and it felt like I was being spiked in the chest every time I coughed, not fun considering I have a bit of a chronic cough. What was really weird is I pinched my finger in a door while the pain was there and it didn't hurt, so clearly the drug was doing its job to some degree (kinda alarming considering my chest still hurt enough to distract me!). The pain went away after a few hours, unlike the buzz which lasted a while longer.

I've used Tramadol twice before, at doses of 50mg and 75mg I believe, and didn't have any issues like this (didn't really get high either time though). Should I avoid Tramadol in the future? Has anyone else had problems like this before? I'm guessing it was a coincidence and there's no correlation, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks!

Like your avatar Yelawolf is the shit. Anyways I had problems with Tramadol and chest pain. I was taking up to 800 mgs of the shit though but I got chest pain at around 150-200 mgs. It fucking sucked. At one point I was like maybe I should go to the hospital because it got really bad but stupid me just fell asleep. I was like if I wake up dead at least my mom will find me. Other than that I believe it's not worth it. If you get symptoms like that at such small dosages it's only going to get worse. The withdrawal from tramadol isn't even worth it.... Especially when you were messing around with other opiates like me... tramadol doesn't do shit. Yes, it kind of helped with withdrawals from the other opiates but not much. It just left me in pain and with crazy side effects such as a seizure one time. Just avoid tramadol.... It works for some people but it doesn't look like you're one of them.

probably the NSRI effects, it's a rather speedy drug...or it was your mind playing tricks on you!

I'm just posting this because of the chest pain observation. For the past 2 years my tramadol intake has been around 35 tablets a day, 50mg tablets, and this is from 6 years of daily use. This shit does create a hell of a tolerance. I never had the heart hurt, and never had a seizure. But on 3/23/2011 I suffered a heart attack. I don't know if tramadol played a part in this or not. I do know this, I've been off of this drug since 3/27/2011!

Whoa!!! 35 tablets a day!!!! Holy shit. Glad you're ok man.

Tram has some SNRI properties and sometimes drugs like that (eg effexor) can raise blood pressure. It might have had something to do with your heart attack.

OP- tram can also fuck up your stomach something fierce. It is *possible* that you could have been experiencing stomach pains.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess I'm done with tramadol for now.

I stopped doing the taper and am back on ~20mg of oxy a day =\ got a gastrointestinal ulcer which my normal shot of aspirin-infused codeine aggravated, and I didn't want to take any more tramacet, so this is my temporary solution. Hopefully I'll be able to go back to codeine relatively easily after my stomach issues go away.

I have read somewhere online about tramadol being a suspect in heart attacks, However if you do decide to try again just take a small dose and see how it effects you. Also if you feel any chest pain ever the first thing you do is eat a couple of asprin!
