Tramadol as a stimulant

Beyond the beyond.
Does anyone else here ever use tramadol to push themselves "above and beyond the call of duty"? I sometimes take 750mg-1 gram a day (yes I know the risks) when I'm working alot, or I'm writing music, or something similar. It will keep me up and in a good mood indefinitely as long as I take it (never for more than 48 hours do I do this). Like the amphetamines, when I start winding down, I can take a dose and be right where I was before again within an hours' time. Anyone else experience this? I can't do this with any other opioid/opiate...that would just knock me out.

I use for this purpose. Sometimes I take a little, sometimes a lot. Even when I take a small amount for pain, around 200-300mg, its a good mood lift. When I take more, like the doses you're saying, it gets me way up. It gives me energy and makes me social. Sometimes when I take a lot I feel sick, it feels like seasickness, but other than that it works wonderfully as a stimulant. I don't like stimulants on their own, and I like opiates, so its perfect.

I found it to be very stimulating even in much lower doses, with a mild opiate buzz that keeps it from being twitchy or otherwise unpleasant. I get a lot done on tramadol, but I definitely had to keep in mind that I wasn't in for a real sort of opiate experience if I planned to take it- aka, I don't feel nearly as creative, etc.

The seizure threshold always kept me from taking higher doses though.

I've had a few times where I felt shaky, so I slowed down my intake. I usually start out with 150mg, then just take 50mg every hour or two. Sometimes 100mg per dose by the time I've been up over 30 hourse.

Here's something to remember: don't take tramadol with wellbutrin (or any DARI for that matter). I was on wellbutrin for a while, and didn't think about it when a friend offered me a lot of tramadol. I took something like 700-800mg and my jaw/face twitched, like getting shocked, for a few hours. I'm lucky I didn't have a full on seizure.

Upwards of 500mg makes me stimulated in an almost amphetamine like way and I used to use it a lot for this purpose at work when I started going back. I found that after really abusing it that it isn't really very affective any more and I just take as directed (hoping my tolerance will eventually go back). Even if I take as directed and stop, I get terrible brain zaps (SSRI withdrawal) reminiscent of the w/d I got from high dosage abuse (1000-1500mg/day for about 2 months).

I don't really get any opiate like effects from it any more, I only abused it for stimulation.

Hence the comparison to amphetamines. Tramadol is the only other drug that pretty much makes me get up and do something.

Also, it's strange that there seem to be stages to the high. At first I feel the opioid effects, then they fade off, then they come back even more prominently.

I take it in high doses with Wellbutrin all the time and never have any issues with it.
It "shouldn't" be done, same reason you shouldn't take it with coke (seizures). Then again, you "shouldn't" take over 400mg. So we never stick to the rules anyway. If taking it with wellbutrin for you doesn't cause adverse effects than you're fine. Fortunately not everyone suffers from the seizures it can cause. I suppose its a small amount, but still a significant number of people that they list the warning.

Ultram at 200mg or more is like drinking a couple of cups of coffee. I just feel wired (anxious, too) and nauseated from the stuff. It can be a nice pick-me-up, esp. if you are suffering from PAWS from opiate withdrawal. Now that I'm on Suboxone, that gives me enough energy. When I get bit by a dog (very nasty injury that required surgery), all they could give me was Ultram bec. of the Suboxone. Trams combined with the antibiotic had me so sick. Eating food doesn't seem to help me, either. Any other ways to keep the ultram from hurting my stomach or am I just ultra-sensitive?

Tramdol I find interesting. I get some insomnia from it but also nod out in between. In the early days when I first started taking it I used to wake up talking- sometimes laughing out loud! I miss that.

I just looked up that shit on ODB...damn. I had no idea that he died from tramadol. I knew coke was involved, but maybe the tramadol was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Pillthrill - Yeah, you must be one of the lucky ones, like me. But like you said, I get kinda freaked when I realize I'm up to a gram. With a low tolerance, 750mg will have me slightly slurring my speech to me, but when I ask people if I'm talking and acting OK, everyone's always said I was fine, and was not slurring. But it feels like I have to push the words out of my mouth. IDK, weird...

Yeah, it causes me insomnia as well, but I could care less so long as I have plenty of it. Cause if I start getting tired, nothing like 100-150mg to get me perked up again. The longer I stay up on it, though, the more often I find myself staring at things for prolonged periods of time, then just *snapping* out of it. Sometimes after a couple days up on it, I'll look in the mirror and it almost looks like I'm on meth or something.

I take too 1g every day, 500mg for work along with some Red Bulls (and a Valium) and 500mg at night for chill out with lots of benzos and Carisoroprodol.
It makes me hyper speedy at work and very very sociable, although it doesnt make me "smart" as Modafinil does, it just improves highly my willpower to do things.

Also, have any of you noticed how you are UNABLE to get any cold or flu on Tramadol? its like the body's defenses are overpowered.

^^Yeah, I never really thought about it much, delphi, but when I was doing 200-400 mg a day of Tramadol I rarely got sick (except of course when I ran out of tramadol).

To the OP: Be careful, even if you arent getting seizures from that high of a dosage, over time it seems to create some long-term potentiation that enables overstimulation. After several months of using at my dosage range, I developed a panic disorder. I feel like it was a combination of stress and Tramadol that was causing this, since it definitely subsided (but hasn't totally gone away) once I cut tramadol out of my life.

funny that so many people find tramadol stimulating. I find that it makes me really tired more so then other opioids. Ive never taken big doses though ive only taken about 150mg's at a time tops.

I have been taking tramadol regularly for about 1 year and 6-9 months. Not exactly sure. I was still on Xanax when I started it. Also, I rarely dose more than 100mg at a time, sometimes up to 125mg or 150mg, but never more.
