Sounds like a strange combo but I wanted to share an experience by SWIM who regularly takes around 300mg Tramadol p/day for recurring pain.

SWIM is nearly 50 and has recently taken up smoking pipe tobacco in unfiltered rollies. Never smoked before BTW.

What SWIM finds is having a smoke a couple hours after the 1st tramadol dose, SWIM gets an intense full-body almost paralysing high, which renders SWIM unable to talk coherently for a few minutes. It is a MUCH stronger hit than weed and totally consumes the body and mind, lasting for a good 15-20mins.

SWIM has read that Tramadol can trigger nicotine receptors. Curious to hear other people's experiences with these two ingredients and is there any cause for concern (apart from the obvious health concerns of smoking tobacco)?

Tramadol has many actions in the brain. Being a (α7)5 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist is one of them.

Not sure why tobacco would cause this type of interaction with tramadol however.

Tramadol also acts as:

μ-opioid receptor agonist
serotonin releasing agent
NMDA receptor antagonist
norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor
5-HT2C receptor antagonist
(α7)5 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist
M1 and M3 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist

It's a busy drug

i know pipe baccy is probably the strongest stuff there is to smoke unfiltered.. and with what the guy above said about thhe nicotine receptors.. and the fact that you just started smoking...

when i started smokin i would get a feel good body high, and a rush o the head... it's robably similar just amplified with the baccy u smoke and th tramadol...

interesting, didn't know about this ineraction

Thanks for the responses. I know tobacco isn't good for SWIM but at least it's legal! Being able to light up in public anywhere without fear of recrimination is also good!
