I have read that SSRIs, like prozac, can dull or totally counteract the effects of LSD. I was wondering if taking tramadol, which does inhibit serotonin reuptake, during or the day before taking LSD would cause problems, like not getting any effects. has anyone taken LSD that takes tramadol regularly?

Sorry, I couldn't personally tell you.

I think this might fare better in PD. Is it OK if I move it over there?

I would just not take tramadol for a few days before and the day of taking LSD. Other opiates go better with LSD anyways. ;)

I'd advise caution with this. I recently got a pretty nasty case of serotonin syndrome when I took LSD after 100mg of tram (prescribed for pain and rarely used for recreation). Details to be found here. I couldn't feel the tram one bit (other than the pain relief) and had no idea that it could interact so seriously with LSD. I avoid tramadol for 24 hours before and after taking LSD now and have had no problem since.

CH: Feel free to shift it over to PD as we have a thread for interactions - this has been mentioned (by me) before and I'm not sure anyone else has brought up the combo yet though.

Am I to assume that tramadol and ketamine is also not a smart move?

I actually found tram and ket worked really well together - nice combo. Don't think ket has much (if any) serotonergic effect though, does it?

Also, I'm not suggesting that anyone who combines acid with tram will get SS but after my experience I'd say it's a risk well worth noting even if it's still a fairly remote possibility. May not happen frequently but it does happen.

For the record, my Bad experience was shortly after commencing daily tram dosing so it's possible the extreme reaction was a one-off down to my body balancing the new substance it was adapting too. Then again, I have (cautiously) tried LSD on tram since I've been on daily dosing for a while now and even with just 50mg and leaving several hours before taking the acid I still had some unwanted effects very similar to the SS incident only very much milder. It's just not worth the risk to me and skipping the tram for a coupla days is not a problem. For someone on a higher dose that may not be so simple.

so you are saying it increased the effects to the point where you were getting bad side effects? thats the opposite of what I was expecting to hear because of prozacs interaction that basically cancels out LSD's effects.

ketamine does interact with the mu opioid receptor and also potentiates opioids in general like other NMDA antagonists do. of course after a certain dose you aren't going to really feel anything but the ketamine.

I'm saying I got a pretty nasty case of Serotonin Syndrome (not just unwanted and unpleasant side-effects - considerably more worrisome than that) when I took acid several hours after even a low dose of trams. I'm also saying it's probably pretty rare, but - y'know - just saying...

I wouldn't wish that night on anybody - honestly the single worst drug experience of my life and I include heroin overdoses, stim-psychoses and accidentally shooting an IM dose of ket into an artery in that. Worse than words could ever hope to describe :|

PS: Just re-read your question and think I may have misunderstood... if you meant the 50mg + much later acid dose experiences then they were much less severe. Kinda uncomfortable with some pain, disorientation/confusion (above and beyond what you'd expect from acid alone)GI discomfort and overstimulation but nothing like that first time on 100mg of trams. It just seems to be a combo that deeply disagrees with me. YMMV, of course :)

Tramadol also has a nasty little seizure problem and it's probably not wise to combine this with psychedelics which are going to lower that threshold even further.

Tramadol has a sub-profile as an SNRI, so it's highly advisable to leave about 3 days' window between final dose and use of serotonergic drugs. I did an allergy test of sorts with Ketamine and had no adverse reaction, however the Ketamine was less effective than it typically is.

SSRI, SNRI, and relatives of these drugs slowly alter the way the brain sends and receives information, and thus slow changes require time to slowly revert back.

Can't expect something that takes a month to work fully to dissipate in a day...

This has happened to me about 5 times, Are there any long term health concerns, considering the amount of times it has happened to me?
