hope this is the right place for this question - ive never been able to find an answer!

i once got hold of tramadol i believe they were 50mg im not entirley sure of that. i was given them as pain relief once genuinly at hospital - never touched it until one day i thought... why not? i loved it i wont lie!

i took 2 tablets every 4-6 hours (this was afew years ago tryin to be as accurate as possible) - i totalled six. i ate nothing throughout the whole day accept keeping hydrated with water - i was wasted but a.okay

when it got dark was gonna take another two i suddenly wondered what would happen if i had a joint with it? so got some sat outside legs up on the table and had two joints. after 3-4 hits i felt very strange ill never forget it - lost all feeling in my head specially round my forehead jaw and neck. like an idiot i kept going but how i dunno! (i was holding as my breath smoking to get the macimum effect btw) i remember sat staring blankly for what i thought was 20 mins turned out to be about 2 hours. everythings abit blurry from this moment

i got up and remember being very disorientated. i vaugley remembering thinking id try to walk it off. i got to the gate and blank... woke up again after no idea how long. i woke up laid out and banging my head on the floor (didnt hurt though) and twitching uncontrollably until i realised whats happening and stood up - im sure i had a seizure of some kind. i got up a little bit more aware but still disorentated and confused. i dont know what happened next but i found i put myself to bed. i was wasted but now fully aware where i was and what was happening. i felt fine just abit nausuated (i assume from lack of food) i tried sleeping but found it impossible. it felt as if i would pass out (but not in a nice stoned chilled way) and my breathing would feel as if its stopping. i didnt like that combined with general paranioa and decided id have to ride it out.

no matter what i did i couldnt get comfortable. i went outside for a cig (still dark) and noticed i kept seeing spots - bright blue red and green spots. deciding that doesnt seem healthy i rang a nurse on NHS direct asking for advice - told me to go to hospital. long story but middle of nowhere no transport no money wasnt gonna happen. i managed to ride it out and finally got to sleep late that afternoon.

to be honest i wont lie - the tramadol on its own was brilliant. but as soon as i combined it with cannibis like i said after the first 3-4 hits everything went wierd in a 'this is healthy right?!' way (had a shitty month and wanted to forget it all so...)

i havent done it since but would love to know what happened to me - why, if i did, did i have a fit? is tramadol and cannibis generally a bad idea? should i have gone to hospital? what would they have done? if you had done what i did would you have done it differently? have you ever tried this? what made me see pretty colours?!

seriously though id love sone insight. in all honesty that was probably my craziest moment bar a time with dihydrocodine - but that was fun - not scary and concerning!

if this is in the wrong place sorry guys :(

THC can cause you to see lights. Tramadol can induce seizures. You should have gone to hospital to get checked out. There is no known issue with this combination.

Tramadol is indeed known to induce seizures and it is possible you had a temporal lobe or absence seizure, but there is no way for us to tell over the internet.. the usual "safe" dose is 400mg/24 hours but some people seize on less, others on more. I'm not aware of cannabis lowering your seizure threshold, but that doesn't mean it doesn't.. However some people find smoking doesn't mix well at all with certain drugs so it is also possible that you just had a bad reaction..

If you are concerned, go to a doctor to get yourself checked out. Definitely go if it happens again and I'd stay away from that combination in future!

Once a seizure has terminated it's pretty hard to tell if you had one or not without accurate eye-witness accounts, but they would have taken a detailed history, examined your nervous system (eyes, power, movement, sensation, coordination etc) and possibly referred you to a neurologist. You can do an EEG (electro-encephalogram) but that only detects seizures while they are happening, and sometimes you get a head CT or MRI. If it happens more than once you may get a trial of an anticonvulsant. You should definitely go next time (hopefully there won't be a next time however!)

There are other drugs you want to avoid combining with tramadol too - anything serotonergic (MDMA, DXM, many psychedelics etc) as there is a risk of serotonin syndrome, and any drugs which can lower the seizure threshold.

Tramadol is EVIL imo. For me, it induces projectile vomiting and i'm down for at least a week. I heard the only reaction with cannabis is Effexor. I don't know why though. Maybe someone will clear this up.

My advice, don't take tramadol if it fucks you up in a bad way like that. Go for a real opiate if you can.
