Hi there. I have been taking tramadol for about 2 years. My doc prescribed it to me for carpal tunnel syndrome. At first I would take it once in a while but 6 months in I was taking it everyday (100 mg) Its been over two years now and Im still taking it. Not for wrist pain so much or to get a buzz but to keep from being sick. 100mg stopped working like they did and I started taking larger doses, I knew very little about tramadol and seizures until I came here 8o I need to take 300 to 400 mg a day just to keep me from being sick, more often than not i throw in another 100mg or so to get a nice buzz. Needless to say, I run out of tramadol quickly so I drink ppt until I can get my new script. Drinking PPT is counter productive because ppt only ups my tolerance levels :| My question is, since I have taken up to 1200mg a day and I havent had a seizure so does that mean I can safely take 400mg a day to keep from being sick without worrying about having a seizure since I have taken such large doses before??

Over the course of a day 400mg should be safe, as iirc that is the maximum daily dosage.
I would suggest you taper with your next refill and stop with the pod tea.
I found tramadol very easy to taper with.

We really can't answer definitively about the safety of a dose and your personal seizure threshold. It is recommended that you shouldn't exceed 400mg daily as tramadol lowers your seizure threshold significantly. I have taken tramadol for months and have taken 400-450mg daily without problems. However, there are threads here on BL where people have had seizures on 350mg-400mg.... So..... It is not recommended, but you know your body more than we do.

As for tapering, I agree with sebuka. Tapering off of tramadol was easy for me and I found that it was not really that physically addicting (a bit mentally due to the serotonergic effects). I have read studies in rats where cross tolerance was not observed between tramadol and morphine, and intuitively that makes sense as we believe it is only a mild μ-opiod receptor agonist. But just because PPT doesn't help you develop tramadol tolerance, it is not a good idea to substitute with it. It's half life is extremely long and WDs are terrible. Try tapering your tramadol usage down significantly over the course of a few months and then stop. WDs should not be that bad and may even be non-existant.

Good luck to you tramaqueen!

Tramadol HCL needs to be upgraded to a C-V to C-IV as it does has affinity to the mu-opioid receptor (among other things (seratonin, norepenepherine,,,)

thanks for your help, i have an update about my tramadol/popy tea dependence. Like a mentioned, i was driking poppy tea on the days i ran out of tramadol..... my tolerance grew 3fold. last month i needed 8 trams to be feel so-so-----thats 400mg. again i ran out of trams and drank ppt everyday.... a few times i also ran out of pods so i scored some h and shot up... i want to taper down trams and have no tolerance but instead im moving to harder drugs.... im getting my new refill in a day or two and frankly im scared how many trams im gonna need to feel normal.....

to be honest with you I dont need it for pain, Im just used to it by now it really elevates my mood (being a mild anti-depressant) I actually feel down when I run out of it and drink ppt or do H. Keeponkeepnon is absolutely right : (

Proud to say I have been clean a year from tramadol. shitty drug..shitty withdrawal (not nearly as bad as h of course) just another underated drug if you ask me.

yeah definately try some hydros! I wld suggest a 7.5/500 dose! the 5 mg are too weak and the 10 mg dont seem to work as well as the 7.5 for some reason. take 3 of them and crush them up and put em in syringe with no needle! fill syringe abt half full with water and put plunger in and shake the shit out of it so it mixes the powder in with the water then get out some vaseline lube up syringe and your bung hole and plug that babey in as deep as you can and hit plunger nice and slow and pump your ass full just as you wld with your old lady with your love crank but anyways thats best and fastest way top get rocked on hydrocodone! Im a plugger for life!

Since when is tramadol C-V?

I always thought it was prescription only, but not listed in the C S A 8o

different states/counties can have separate laws than federal.. so for instance.
tramadol can be RX only in one state but go to another one and it can be C-V.
in my state it's RX only.. not scheduled/controlled.

You did for a long time, so maybe it will be slightly difficult to quit after it became a regular part of your body chemistry.
Daily opiod use in 3 days can lead to nasty withdrawals. But tramadol is not technically opiod, even through the metabolites act on opiod receptors.
I used tramadol like 400-500 mg a day for a week straight. Then I ran out but never had any withdrawal symptoms at all.
Tapering down to lower dosage makes sense to be safe, but don't worry, quite fast you can become tramadol free with a minimum amount of side effects. Good luck!

I always thought Schedule V drugs are OTC drugs...the bottom of the food chain, all drugs are scheduled whether it's tylenol or fentanyl, anyone to correct me?

^no it goes C-I; C-II; C-III; C-IV; C-V; OTC and even some OTC meds (ephedrine as an example) still need a pharmacists approval in order to buy so they are considered BTC meds (behind the counter) lol.

I took tramadol for 3 years at first it made me throw up but I needed it for my carpal tunnel after 6 months i noticed i took it every day no matter what.... after that i would take up to 12000mgs (no seizures thank god) i would go through my script pretty fast so i started taking ppt-----yes tramadol its not schedule (in kentuky it is) and its not an opiate per se but i have read of many people having withdrawal symptoms when they stopped taking it. i did it cold turkey i actually came clean w my doctor (not about poppy tea or my other vices : )) but i was honest---and cut me off. i had all the symptoms of a mild opiate withdrawal. Im happy to say that im not addicted to anything although i do indulge here and there : )
thanks for being there you guys are awesome

tramadol is unique in its own way, its not cross tolerant with other opiates, also if one is on suboxone or methadone you don't have to worry about Precipitated Withdrawl, or Blockage

I took 20 37.5 mg tramadol and didnt feel a thing! I wld tell my dr. to get fkd if he ever tried to prescribe me that again! GEt some hydros or percs and if ya wanna get down get some oxycontin or generic version, oxycodone er its abt half price! I take 40 mg of that via One nice rail and am good to go for 5 or 6 hours allthough I cant bust a nut on it! lol I gt hard as a rock and pound my pold lady for hours but cant give her that money shot that she so desires! lol

If your preferred dosage is 40mg of oxy up the nose, then tramadol isn't going to blow you out of the water. It's a mild opiate, IMO.
And, man, 5-6 hours on 40mg snorted oxy! I wish I could stay high that long. I feel good for maybe 3 hours via nasal administration, then it's time for the other half =D.
