My dog was hit by a car a few days ago and was prescribed Tramadol for his pain. Last night I re-sprained one of my ankles (old injury, very weak) and was in such pain this morning that I decided to take 100 mg of the Tramadol. A friend of mine had talked about doing it in the past, recreationally, and had good times on it, so I thought it would be a pleasant experience. Boy was I wrong!

I have a pretty strong stomach (or so I thought) and ate the pills after eating a banana because I read that nausea was one of the side effects. I haven't been able to keep any food down today at all. Waves of full body sweating, having to lie down, and puked five times (I almost never throw up, so for it happen repeatedly in the same day is nearly unheard of for me), laid around feeling really woozy, feeling like the day was wasted. When I wasn't feeling excessively ill, I did get some stuff accomplished but overall I really dislike the feeling of it. It kinda reminded me of times when I took bad ecstasy in the past. Weird body load, slow brain, hard to keep my eyes open. Twelve hours after taking the pills I am feeling a little bit better but still feeling out of it. My ankle DID stop hurting, so I guess it does work for pain relief, but the side effects are not worth it!

Never again.

And what was your question? Do you take any other meds? Because Tramadol has big potential for interaction with other medications.

Or 100mg was simply too much. I guess you have no tolerance to opioids. So 50mg, like in the title, would have been enough for painkilling properties.
Tramadol is very special because it is metabolised via CYP2D6 and every persons enzyme system works differently. This is why some people love it and others hate it.

^^ indeed. im guessing you are totally opiate naieve (good thing) in which case i would concur that it sounds like a simple overdose. my mom who unfortunately is combatting secondary cancer of the brain was given them by a doctor who equated them to co-codomal to her, i had to quickly reeducate her on the matter but tbh its to the stage that i just dont want her in pain so warned her of dangers but advised her to take them. she is totally opiate naieve (aside from very occasional hospital morphine) and after taking 50mg was surrealistically (for myself) recounting to me all the symptoms of those oh so familiar opiate/oid effects including loss of apetite.. whereas i took two (100mg) she gave me for toothache and literally didnt feel a thing.. but i am you could say - not opiate naieve, so it follows. i wouldnt be too worried about tramadol in of itself. you probably just took a bit much - just mightve been the best thing that couldve happened to you in the long run, trust me on that one

So.. you took Tramadol that's for your dog who's in pain from getting hit by a car and actually needs his medication... then come on BL before you took it. And just to clarify, are you asking a question? I didn't see one in your post. There seems to be a trend of people coming and posting after they do something that's probably not a good idea. And after the fact we can't exactly offer any advice because it's too late by then.

My advice would be don't take medication that's meant for your pet even if humans can take it too. I'm sure your pet needs ALL of it. If you got hit by a car you would want every but of your pain medication, trust me. And if you have legitimate pain go to your doctor or if you're not looking to get high (which I think you were...) ice it and take advil. Pain meds don't usually stop the pain, just distract you from it. Managing the swelling and other symptoms with proper icing (or heat if applicable) is usually more effective.

Edit: Sorry if I didn't come off as very sympathetic. I'm sure you feel awful. I'm just really protective of animals since they can't take care of themselves like people can.
