Hi
20 yrs ago I was diagnosed with Panic disorder/insomnia, prescribed Xanax taken as needed, various antidepressants (I tried all of them). Also, Chronic type tension headache.
I know that when life goes on,life pressure increases,my Xanax intake increases. This is,the bad side when taking meds as needed, following "inner feeling".
I end up from 1mg to 10mg,which,is considerably still within therapeutic range.

As it doesn't give relief, build tolerance, I began using much codeine from cough syrup, which is pure Dihydrocodeine tartarate.

Soon, I'm diagnosed, being transformed psychiatrically into, addiction/substance misuse.

Now,my GP, prescribes Tramadol 150mg taken twice daily.

Primary symptom is Headache. Then I build up addiction.
Now taking Tramadol.

Occasionally still taking Codeine.
I've never been treated with any other opiates like methadone, buprenorphine etc.

I'm just afraid if the GP refer me to Methadone clinic then I'll be in the database as a drug dependence, not as a having chronic headache,anxiety/panic as my primary symptom.

Now I'm confused. Any comment appreciated.

i assume your goal is to come off the tramadol without withdrawals?

surely there is another way around this situation that your doctor can work through with you?
i would say going on methadone would be a step in the wrong direction if you are wanting to come off the tramadol.

Is Buprenorphine or Methadone effects stronger than Tramadol?

I know that, according to a research, Methadone prolongs QT interval in heart rhythm.

While Buprenorphine has a ceiling effect, being partial agonist in dose below 12mg. But if someone taking 12mg above it's antagonist effect appears, blocking opioid receptor. Also, according to research, it blocks the receptor that when taken with other opiates, it blocks other opiates from having any effects.

Any input, whether Tramadol would be a better choice for me that depend upon Codeine to kill the headache?
My Gp is willing to prescribe Tramadol all year long, as long as, taken accordingly, 150mg twice daily.

But,supposed, when treated with buprenorphine, what's the max time the GP would allow?
