The steel monster rumbles,
then sways
with sad respite.

Forever trapped in
timetabled precision;

============metropolitan
==========and
======back
==again.

Sunlight splashes warmth
on tartan dull and drab

while

single mothers shift their gaze
avoiding confrontation,
as stained-black gum watches
from below.

I agree. I often write on the train or tram (though it's easier on the train as less shaky).

I really liked the formatting for this bit:

===========to
============metropolitan
==========and
======back
==again.
Reminds me of one of those screens you see in some central city train statons that show when all the train lines will be arriving and departing, which is a clever link to make for this piece of writing. :)
 
Nice one... yeah I often find that travelling around on public transport gets the creative juices flowing. It's often an opportunity to stop, breathe, watch the people and ponder where you sit in the circuitry of the city.
