Toxic Shock Syndrome (for Cameron McWilliams)

Bit of background: I read this story today about a little boy who killed himself because he wanted to be a girl....so sad. Story is here, I would really like people to read it so that if nothing else, at least awareness of these issues comes out of this. Hopefully one day we will live in a world where people don't equate different with freak.

dressed in boyskin
hanging from the ceiling
like so much meat
it doesn't matter now
if you're sugar or spice
snails or puppy dogs' tails
why did it then?

millions in this world
souls mismatched with flesh
and we cast judgement
before we lend a hand
we let you suffer
because we see the masks of boys and girls
and not the people behind them.

today a ten year old hangs in the breeze
a mother grieves for teenage years
that will never be lived
relationships
that will never happen
a life cut short
because our shock
means more than your sadness.

and we can't even say goodbye
to who you really are
because all we ever let you be
was a boy called Cameron.

This is haunting and very touching Raz. You've captured so much in this piece. Even without knowing the story or reading the link someone could appreciate this. I misted up reading this.

Thats sad, but perhaps needed to understand the struggle of another which is alien to our own.
