Tortured Soul 7/16/2002
you ever have that one person in your life…
that person who struck something inside you,
their mere presence reaches into you, flips a switch and you’re a new man,
one step closer to the person you’ve always wanted to be,
she dressed the wounds of this tortured soul,
when i talk about her, i find yourself in a calm gaze,
meditating,
writhing my sweaty palms,
frustratingly trying to calm this anxiety.
the story often told more for you than others,
in hopes of reviving a bit of peace those moments gave me
eyes fixed, eyelids catching tears,
teeth jittering with every spoken word,
my jaw shivering with guilt,
i can’t look out into the world anymore.
i can only look in and ask questions
the story is told, the moment fades
and with a turn of the head, a shift in cognition
that moment is broken
and i find myself back at the beginning,
a tortured soul.
