I take 50mg of topamax a night to prevent migraines. Been on it about a month and haven't had any issues except I have to take it at night because it makes me stupid.. its called dopamax and stupamax for a reason..Earlier my vision went all blurry now there's weird pressure behind my eye. It says the medication can cause glacauma and to call your dr immediatly however it's the middle of the night and I wont be able til call til the morning... Is this an ER situation? I know it's a topamax side effect but I just don't know if it's ER worthy. I have not taken tonights dose of topamax. Thanks.

Yea its one of the reallly bad side effects.. it can cause "narrow angle glaucoma".. which is why I was concerned. It turned out to be a migraine though. Which sucks but is better than the other alternative.

yea my ex gf had to go to the emergency room when she was on that stuff
cuz her eyes got all messed up like you said, but she described it more like she was going blind, and felt like a crust was building up on her eyeball

^Yea, I read some stories it really freaked me out. I am sorry for your ex.. is her sight okay? My dr told me if it happens again to definatly go to the ER.. the pain was ridiculous and my vision went blurry first then there was insane pressure on my eye. All around it sucked.. then I wound up with a dulled migraine cause the topamax makes them "not as bad".. Some of the side effects of this medication really freaks me out.

^"Yeah, keep on taking this and just head to the emergency room at 4 in the morning to hang out for 6 hours if you have any problems… again."

^What happened in the ER? As in what course of treatment did she receive?

^Well, it wasnt the glaucoma side effect, it was an actual migraine. I think the reason my eye was affected was because I had gone swimming and Chlorine is a real motherfucker to me. It works really well to lessen my migraines, since i have been on it I have only had 2 which is a big plus for me. But yea if anybody takes topamax ans experiences *that* side effect they need to go to an ER immetiatly.

I've had "acute glaucoma" before, I woke up one morning and noticed one of my eyes was slightly blurry, this progressed until it became impossible to see out of. It was like trying to see through a cloud of thick smoke in that eye. Turns out it was called Iritis, in my case it just happened randomly, but it can be attributed to hundreds of other diseases. The ER had to call in a specialist to figure out what the fuck was wrong with me, he figured it out in about five minutes, gave me the right medication and my eye went back to almost normal vision within an hour. However it took a few months till it completely cleared up.

Anyway, it scared the shit out of me, they said if I hadn't come in when I did that the pressure could have built up to a point where I would have had permanent vision loss. At the time I thought I had a brain tumor or something.

That would be a horrible side effect to have, I guess you're lucky you just had a migraine, but I've never had a migraine so I couldn't really say.

This thread is quite interesting...

I'm currently on 100mg of Amitriptyline for migraines - have you ever tried that?

I used to get migraines SO badly that I'd lose sight and then feeling down my right side. It was VERY scary to experience. Since being on Ami I don't get the loss of vision or severe pain but I do still get a sort of blurry-weighty sense over my right eye. I also get shaky eyes sometimes too..?!

Any of that sound familiar to a fellow migraine sufferer?

^Well it's a side effect of the medication. But I do get some weird pains in my eye when I am having a migraine... shaky eyes too.. Anything with the eye is just weird.
