- Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle (replace one of the DMX albums and that's definitely in my top 10)
- Dr. Dre - The Chronic (I prefer 'Doggystyle' over it, but that's easily an honorable mention, if not in the actual top 10)
- Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang: The 36 Chambers (easily an honorable mention...I'm sure most hip-hop heads got that in their top 10)

Something I had been thinking about doing for awhile but never got around to it, now I have a reason to :)

1. Before These Crowded Streets - Dave Matthews Band
Favorite band, favorite album. Start to finish a whole journey of sound and imagery

2. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
Brilliant lyricism and incredibly catchy, huge influence on my writing

3. Illmatic - Nas
Fuck me brilliance. The words are intense and the beats are unstoppable. Every playlist I make has a bunch of songs from this cd.

4. Mothership Connection - Parliament
No one can layer as many hooks into one song as Parliament does. Can't help but groove to this beast ("Make my funk the P-Funk, I wants to get funked up")

5. Crash - Dave Matthews Band
Sax solos to die for, carpe diem lyrics that even a mild pessimist like me can relate to, and a sound that can't be replicated.

6. Metaphorical Music - Nujabes
Do yourself a favor and listen. I haven't met a person who doesn't enjoy Nujabes.

7. Smash the Windows - Mischief Brew
Folk punk perfection. Great tunes throughout.

8. Overcast! - Atmoshpere
Slug demonstrates here that one can spit intelligent rhymes and still have a raw sound. A classic.

9. Goddamnit - Alkaline Trio
Love the lyrics, so relatable for me. Add energy and grit and you have a fucking epic emo? cd.

10. Red Eyed Soul - World/Inferno Friendship Society
Music to fall in love to. While fucked up on drugs. And tearing apart the government.

Bach: Cello Suites 1-6 by Pablo Casals

West African / bluesy
Ali Farka Toure: Niafunke (funky-as-hell African/blues sound with hand drums and electric guitar)
Boubacar Traore: Ga Solo (passionate singing and beautiful acoustic guitar)

East African
Hamza El Din: A Wish (Funky and poetic oud, played by a virtuoso - BTW, this guy played with the Dead)

Classical Indian
Ustad Ali Akbar Khan: Signature Series Vol I or II (a virtuoso on the Sarod who plays deep, emotional, and intense music)

This leaves me with just one or two albums in each of my favorite genres, which is woefully inadequate. In fact, I am getting agitated! These are the essential groups/musicians/albums missing from my list that are screaming at me right now: "you can't possibly live without me!"

Also, I am replacing Beirut with Built to Spill- Perfect from now On.
 
Wow Buck, another stones fan huh? I hesitate to put them in the top ten, but the stones are my second favorite group of all time next to the beatles. I would rank Let it Bleed as the
number one stones album closely followed by sticky fingers.
