Tooth removal

I have a situation, that a tooth of mine is probably going to be removed. I've never undergone this kind of operation, so I just wanted to ask you if it hurts a lot? I'll be given a numbing agent of course, but I'm still a bit scared about the pain. Share your experiences, please! :\
 
hello,

i had a tooth out a few months back. Was dreading it too. However it came out pretty easily. You'll expect pain and your mind will be telling you thats it should be sore but you wont actually feel too much.

It might also be worse if its a molar as they have deeper roots. Mines was a pre-molar and came out in under a minute.
 
The US navy requires you to remove your wisdom teeth. Mine were embedded and took 5 hours of surgery to remove. I felt tugging but no pain. A few years ago I had to undergo a root canal, a process I'd been led to believe was painful. No pain at all. The first process was done in the US so I can see the difference in pain meds the second in the uk. no pain.

You should be fine darlin. They will not leave you in pain nor will they proceed if you can feel pain. You won't be "knocked out" but you'll be numb and may drool a bit after.

I quite like the pain, usually forego any painkillers or numbing agents.

If does hurt, ask them to stop and give you more. It's usually an injection of lidocaine in and around the gum of the tooth that's to be extracted.
 
I have had 4/5 removed as im phobic about dentists so once a filling comes out I just let it rot then it has to come out - they always give you lots of novocaine/ lido etc never hurt me at all feels weird like they are pushing rather than pulling sometimes but NO PAIN they will keep testing with a spikey thing till you cant feel it (if you can you get another shot) I always take a couple of valium otherwise I wouldn't walk through the door. But now I don't want to loose any more teeth so I go if I need to - btw mine have all been molars except 1 pre molar

It was awesome and I miss it all the time. They make you take your wisdom teeth out because they can't put dental surgeons on ships. They cause the most problems so they simply remove them in boot camp. I was well off my trolly with the pain meds they'd given me! One fuck was not given. Did have to be on a liquid diet for about a week though.
 
If your that scared then have a word with the dentist, some can give you something else on top of the pain meds to calm you down.

Out and out lie if you're with any NHS (aka tooth-pullers) dentist. Maybe if you're with a private dentist who actually cares about their practice.
 
I have had all four impacted wisdom teeth removed as well Sadie! Years ago...the first two were smashed out quite literally with bits flying everywhere by a local dentist and it was unpleasant but you feel nothing with the numbing injection. I did feel a bit traumatised though so asked to be put under a general for the second lot.The second lot were removed in dental hospital and I remember nothing but I will be honest while I felt nothing when you have a general they try and shove a suppository up yer arse to stop nausea ...I refused to allow them to do it and insisted I did it myself...they didn't like that at all. Didn't work anyway..you swallow so much blood while they do it under a general..milk straight after helps.

So there you go total honesty...you may feel some discomfort after but no real pain in my experience. If it's just the one tooth..I'll send my Dad round he used to put string around our wobbly teeth attach string to door knob and slam door..voila..tooth gone and fucking traumatised and pschologically damaged for life..seriously..you will be fine..ask for all the drugs or just shove some coke in the area after..I jest....good luck. <3
 
I love the dentist. I've had a few fillings n when the drill nose started n I was dying to laugh which is difficult when you're mouth's open I can tell ya hahahabut nah the dentists ace. And the needle didn't hurt at all dentist apt in December n I'm really looking looking fwd to it. I'm hoping to have another filling as one has become really sensitivecto hot n cold n chocolate plus I've got gum disease. So hope they sort that. And it's ace cause it don't cost a penny x love dentists <3

Fucking hell that sounds like a lot amount of time! . Mine were removed in one session. I didn't feel anything for days! Totally drugged up! That was US not UK.

The most painful part for me is the injection of anaesthetic into the gums - this makes my toes curl... Ten minutes later they could take a chainsaw to yer gob and you wouldn't know it. By far the most distressing part is trying to smoke a fag afterwards when your lips are totally numb - it must look like you're in a gurning competition.

I used to have a dentist who would say "put your hand up if the drilling hurts" when he was doing a filling. One time he didn't numb me enough do I put my hand up about 3 times. Eventually he said "there's no way you can feel that". I could, so when it came to him having to do an extraction I said just leave it. A few years later the tooth cracked and it had to be removed but by this time my dentist had killed himself so I was put in the patient list of one of the other 2 dentists in the practice. When it came to pulling the tooth I was shitting it because I don't have much of a pain tolerance but my new dentist had numbed it perfectly and I had no pain at all, even later on when the anesthetic had worn off it was fine. If you have a decent dentist who's not stingy with the pain killer you should be fine.
