Background: Used opiates heavily for about 3-4 years. Now due to current location my only access is a small quanity ONE time a month. This is the ONLY time I use during the month. Usually for around 2-3 days then stop. However, even though I'm literally taking ~30 day breaks dosing 60-120 mg within an hour or so does NOT make me nod. I have even pushed this as far as 180mg. Now instead I almost get a "upper" type experience from it. I know many feel this from OC but it literally makes me stay awake even though there should be no sleeping issues. I have discovered the ONLY way I can actually nod is to take 1-2mg of xanax along with the SAME dose. (I know harm reduction, mixing is a bad idea, etc)

tl;dr do opiate receptors never go back to baseline once you have absued them long enough?

thanks for any help that can be provided.

Oxycodone is generally regarded as a stimulating opiate, perhaps you have just built tolerance to its sedative effects or you are in settings that lend themselves to more activity.

Drugs affect everyone differently, and people change. If you're still getting effects from oxycodone your receptors are not "broken".

It may be counterintuitive but you can always try taking less.

Oxycodone has always effected me that way. It made me ready to go. Then when I was looking for the nod, I had to take xanax. Even with xanax, I could never sleep over 2-3 hours at a time.

I'm a long time heavy user as well.. The only opiate that I get the nod from nowadays is heroin.. I've taking large amounts of diff opiates and got nothing.. I've never used oxymorphine or hydromorphine so I don't know about those...

I've been using heavy opiates since I was 15 and six years later I still haven't spent more than 90 days sober consecutively. I really do not believe opiate receptors ever truly reset themselves IME.

I find that if i use heavily for a few days my tolerance goes through the roof... I have to take breaks because I will stop getting high.. I have always had a high tolerance for most anything... As far as your receptors are concerned they are kinda like a muscle the more you use them the more weight you have to use... They will "reset" (for lack of a better word) and since youre not used to taking as much you could be overloading them... So i agree try less....

tolerance ebbs and flows I took a couple months off and my tolerance dropped alot id say I ws able to get high using 50 percent less. But I really doubt it ever resets. I dont think 10mg of hydro will ever get me high again.

I remember using oxycodone and finding that I'd be up all night most of the time because of its stimulating properties. It's not really the opiate I would choose if I were seeking the nod.

Agree but I'd only use the Benzos if you like to nod . If you are like me I liked the up part of my oxy high and didn't enjoy nodding as much . As far as dose I'd start out at .5 mgs of K-pin and go from there . 120 mgs of oxy was my former target daily number . If I dropped .5 or 1 mg of Xanax or K-pins on top of the oxy I would get pretty noddy
