Opioids tolerance question

I've been doing 30 - 60 mg's of oxy every day for several months, but I only use it in the evenings at home. Last week I took a week off to try to cut down on physical dependence, and I had some w/d symptoms, but nothing too bad. I started up again a few days ago, and now it seems like my tolerance has increased significantly. Tonight I took 50 mg's in the course of a couple hours and I don't feel anything. Has anyone heard of time off actually increasing tolerance?

That sounds very unusual and I cant think of any reason why that would happen.

I was also suprised to hear that after using 30-60 mg's of oxy everyday for several months didn't cause you to experience much more severe withdrawal effects....those arent very high doses, but they certainly arent that small either.

My best guess is that since you have been using oxy for so long, that your tolerance was bound to increase and it was in the process of increasing even more when you decided to take a week off. So when you started using again, your tolerance would have been atleast where it was before, or maybe even slightly higher due to the fact that oxy takes a little while to leave your system, and since your tolerance was in the process of increasing, the break didnt have much of an effect because a week off isnt really that long of a time period...apparently it wasnt long enough to get all the oxy out of your system, allowing your tolerance to start to lower.

this is just speculation, but I can't see any other possibilities. Maybe its some sort of weird placebo effect?...how many times have you used oxy since you started again after the break?

Tonight is the 4th time since I've started again. My habit is kind of weird because I take it when I get home at 6:00 every night and I don't usually re-dose, so I only have it in my system for a few hours every day. I think that's why I don't get severe w/d symptoms and I thought it was helping me avoid developing a lot of tolerance up to this point.

It doesnt matter if you only take it at 6 pm every night....because of "half lives", and because you use every day, the drug builds up in your system more and more over time.....just like how you could quit using oxy today and, 2 days from now(probably longer) you could get drug tested and it will show up in your urine...meaning...ITS STILL IN YOUR BODY.

Just because you dont feel it acting on your brain doesnt mean its not there.
You say that because you only use it at 6pm every day and dont redose that that means its out of your system and prevents severe withdrawal??....WRONG....please read up more information on the drug your taking, your obviously a little confused about its mechanism of action. JUST BECAUSE YOU ONLY DOSE ONCE A DAY AND YOU STOP FEELING IT AFTER A FEW HOURS DOESNT MEAN ITS NOT IN YOUR BODY ANYMORE.

Before I continue reading, tell me why on earth this is necessary. You realize you willingly subjecting yourself to an addiction, right? This site is for harm reduction. Not harm maximization. All I'm saying is, don't blame anybody but yourself when shit hits the fan.

It does indeed have a lot to do with the way the OP takes their dose. The reason why his/her tolerance is at a relatively low level for daily use over extended periods is due to his once a day dosing.

Half live's can vary... But a lot of reading states that Oxycodone has a half of 4 hours. General rule of thumb is around 8 half live's for given drug to be out your system. With a 4 hour half you get 6 in a 24 hr period. So the OP would have around .9376 mg left at his/her redosing.

Due to the way he/she only doses once a day, does indeed allow for less sevre withdrawals, fact.

With great certainty I can assume that if he/she dosed 2,3,4 times a day they would have way more withdrawals than a person dosing once daily.

James, could your point about the drug still being in my system for longer periods of time be a possible explanation for why it seems like I'm not feeling the buzz at my usual doses right now? If the drug stays in my system for so long, is it possible that I had a certain degree of "build-up" and by taking a week off and letting it get completely out of my system, it now takes more oxy than it used to in order to get the same buzz? I admit that I still have a lot to learn about this stuff, and I'm trying to learn by asking questions. And, Vox, thanks for the lecture, but I don't have any illusions about what I'm doing, and I don't blame anyone but myself for where I am now or where I will end up.
