Misc Tolerance for Zolpidem (aka Ambien)

I have a love affair with Ambien - been going on about 7 years now. At first just half a pill would send me to heaven, but now it takes 7 or 8 to get there and it's not nearly as good (isn't that the classic story of all drug use?) The problem is I only have access to 30x 10mg pills per month, which means I go through it in just a few days and am left looking forward to the next time I fill my rX for the rest of the month, and those weeks are lonnnnnnng. I take it after everything is sorted in my household, so after 10 pm. Anyway, given that background, here are my questions:

(1) Is it dangerous for me to be taking 80 mg of Zolpidem in one evening, for a few days in a row?
(2) Is there any way for me to get the same effect I got in the beginning? I'm surprised I have such a tolerance because I go weeks between uses!
(3) If I were to pursue acquiring additional pills such that I could do it every night, would my tolerance escalate, and would it be dangerous?
(4) What is the likelihood that purchasing online actually gets me real pills, without attracting the attention of law enforcement?
(5) At the risk of letting it get out of control, what is the natural "next" thing I could try? Should I ask my doc for a different kind? No, I'd be too scared to miss out on that part of the month!

Thank you very much! I am glad to see a community like this existing. Note that I am a recovering alcoholic (sober 2.5 years!)

1. Probably. Being amnesic and uncoordinated isn't very safe.
2. Nope. You could take a very long break (6months-2years) but even then it's likely you will rapidly regain any tolerance right back.
3. You know the answer. Yes.
4. We can't discuss drug sourcing, but buying precription-only medicine without a prescription is a crime...
5. It's probably best for you not to "move on to a next thing"... if so, maybe cannabis or something. Unfortunately there's not much that is comparable to Ambien and the z-drugs in terms of effects profile.
