Opioids Tolerance break: how long after stoppiing certain opioids does it take to normalize?

Ok so I'm wondering what has been people's personal experience after stopping all opioids (please list which you were using) did it take to significantly lower tolerance.

Also for harm reduction reasons I should point out that most ODs happen after someone has taken a break for whatever reason and they use too and overdose when they start up again- be very careful....

Anyway I was binging on fentanl patches the past week (using one 5mg patch buccaly per day- weird thing is I have no WDs where before I would be shaking after a few days of heroin use). Now I tried shooting 8mg of hydromorphone which would have had me floating a week ago and now I feel nothing, no rush or anything. No more fentanyl for me, I just wish I could bring my tolerance down quickly so I can get the most out of this oxymorphone and hydromorphone I have left (I don't have much time before I go overseas and I want to use it before then).

So, what has been your experience after stopping various opioids to bring your tolerance down to reasonable levels? Please list specific opioids, your average daily intake, and how long it took to tame those receptors... :)

It usually takes about twice as long as you have been using to normalize. That being said, once you have had a tolerance in the past, it will return much more quickly if you start using again.

^ Pretty much, taking half-life into consideration and fentanyl having a very short one your tolerance might drop a little quicker then say heroin or oxycodone.

i dont know about you guys but after 3 or 4 days of no use AT ALL my tolerance drops back down to maybe 10%.

and this is from going on huge oxycodone binges of like 1000mg a day to nothing for a few days then using maybe 30mg and being high as a kite.

maybe my body is just different

oh plus ive been on opioid for the last 12 years, start when i was 11

Yeah, I feel like tolerance drops by about 10% every day you stop using for the first few days, then by maybe 5% each day after that. By three weeks it seems to have gone down to about as low as it will go - at least for moi.

i am down to 1 mg a day of sub after being on 12mgs a day for over a year, tapering for the last 6 months and doing heroin for 9months before that. I wonder what my tolerance is at now, or where it will get down to all the time. Im just scared to ever test it, i'm 33 days sober today from everything but bupe, i don't wanna do some opiates just to see what my tolerance is and end up relapsing. Maybe in another few months, after i have been fully off of sub for a couple months at least ill try it and get back to you.

Damn I hope- I just wasted 4mg hydromorphone and 10mg oxymorphone all IV for no effect. I'll stop for a couple days and then try again. I also have 1mg bupe in my system (was a 2mg pill but its been 30 hours which is its half life). I usually never have problems with bupe at 2mg or less, so I wonder if that contributed to it. I mean last week I got insanely high off 2mg dillaudid and had that rush feeling stay there for a couple hours it was amazing. A big difference from when I would shoot 12-16mg just to get a 10 second rush that went away immediately.

For me tolerance take awhile to drop (about 2 months), but even after 3 days of using again it is right back to where it was before.

^^ - are you serious? 1yr? man up. i was on heroin for the better part of two years and dropped it cold for two months.

@OP I'll let you know how much 2 month break honemoon goes tonight im planning on shooting 1 or 2 bags tonight.

Man up? Sorry I would not wish W/D's on my worst enemy..Anything anyone can do to avoid them then props to them.

Blackjesus, don't be a dick. Congratulations your habit was worse! Coming off any amount of heroin is a bitch.

So I'm curious about tolerance with fentanyl. I used a lot but never got WDs from it but it still boosted my tolerance like crazy- strange. I'm hoping it goes to a reasonable level in the next few days while I take no opioids.

^ Thats quite odd as Fentanyl has given me the worst and quickest onset of withdrawls even when compared to oxymorphone and oxycodone but this is just IME i guess
