To what extent does Buprenorphine dull your emotions?

Hi. So it's going to be awhile before im off the Suboxone, but I am wondering what to expect in terms of resurfacing emotions once the bupe is no longer in my system?

It's a tough one for me to gauge as there is no high associated with Suboxone when used for long term maintenance (nearly 3 years in this case) like there is with heroin, oxy etc etc and I certainly still feel some pretty full on emotions (which I hate) ..... But im thinking that to some extent, it must have some masking effect? And then some rebound anxiety/depression?

Hope that makes sense. At the moment im jusr working to get my dose down to a much lower level and be stable on that. Thanks.

Quite a bit imo. I've been on and off bupe several times and notice a very pronounced difference even with low doses (2-4mg)

Ugh ok thanks. I assumed it would but it's not noticeable while you're on it like other drugs when used for maintenance obviously as in it doesn't get you high. Definirrly not ready, not that im jumping off 32mg anytime soon

Really? I have not found it works as an anti deprsssant at all. Other opiates, yes, bupe, no. I have heard other people say that though. I have always atrugfled with depression, sometimes worse than others like most people. I hate to think it could get worse. I guess maybe I'll get down to a 1/4 or less of my dose and see if I can just remain stable on that. No rush except im sick of being on such a big dose.

Thanks

Buprenorphine suppressed my emotions a lot. Be prepared to feel a lot of feelings you don't want to.

Yeah. I already feel ALOT of emotjins I don't want to! This is still years away considering my dose (32) and the slow pace my dr reduces. Im wondering if reducing slowly will produce these side effects or j should be ok right until the sting in the tail like other drugs, ie. Benzos.

Cfzrx, no! I have a lot of pain, rib and side pain, frequent migraines (I spit the naloxene) neck, and other issues. I hate to rbibk that my pain myght actually be worse without it which is scary, I don't know what im missing. I've considersd changing to methadone for pain relief reasons but really don't want to go done that road.

Just because it doesn't make you high doesn't mean that it doesn't work as a antidepressant. And yes it's horrible for pain. So if you're taking such a huge dose the only depression and bad feelings you may feel are the feelings of withdrawal because I've heard that anything above relatively low dose 4-8mg of bupe isn't doing much.

Well this is subjective isnt it? There is a member whose name Ive forgotten who takes low doses, like 1mg daily, and says its the best pain medicine he has used.

Im interested in this subject and have been contemplating starting a post but waiting to see how I react first.

Less is generally considered more when it comes to bupe and pain. In Europe bupe is prescribed in the microgram range for acute pain.

I know the whole less is more thing with bupe. Unfortunately there is a small percentage of the population that either metabolises it too well or not well enough and I'm one of them hence the high dose.

And yes, I know re being high versus dulling emotions which Is the whole reason for the post.

I've had depression on and off for 20 years and have never found anything that really helps, hence still being in therapy and waiting to get into someone that does DBT. The only thing I've ever found to work is actual opiates such as heroin and oxy but I can't live like that anymore.

I am slowly starting to reduce my Dose but have a long way to go.

I have a lot of pain in my body (actually off to the dr today.) and they increased my dose both times I was in hospital with pneumonia as they didn't know what else to do, didn't do a thing. I have no idea how it acts on a opiate naive person.

Temgesics (that mcg scale bupe) works pretty damn well as a breakthrough med for moderate breakthrough pain too even when you are on other opiates. Small amounts of bupe seem to potentiate that other opiate you are taking instead of giving you withdrawals as is the case with larger supra-mg doses.

Some pain doctors even prescribe few mcg/h buprenorphine patches along with other opiates to prevent tolerance build-up.

Temgesic is actually the first opiate product I have ever taken and it was good for the pain I got after a knee surgery.
