To tan or not to tan.......that is the question.

I go to the solarium once, sometimes twice a week. I dont need to go too often because my skin tans very well.... and it makes me feel good. I certainly dont think its vain, or stupid... i call it 'taking pride in your appearance' and wanting to look your best. Is that so wrong? Who doesnt wanna look their best with summer on its way!

But when the wqeather cools down, a tan is the last thing i want. I couldn't imagine going to the solarium all year round.... now thats just silly!!!

Tans may look ok, but I always get an image of someone when they are in their 70's and it kinda grosses me out so I don't like them.

I dig pale :)

There is taking pride in your appearance and being vain. They are two different things and i think that it's just vain. It's just my opinion *shrugs* and aren't they even worse for you then the sun?

wazza - don't have any but i did read a while ago that there is certain chemicals in sunscreen that can cause cancer but doesn't everything these days?

Ya know the funny thing is, that even though i prefer myself to be tanned.... i prefer pale skin on other people. If i see a guy with dark hair and pale skin... i cant take my eyes off them! (thats if they are actually good looking too) or a girl! I have been inlove with Rose McGowan since i was about 15..... she is one fucking sexy bitch! I LOVE her white white skin. Mmmm!!!!

My tanning guru actually told me to tan once or twice in low level beds, then go ahead and get the mystic tan, which creates your base tan. After you get the Mystic you continue to tan in level 2 or 3 beds following that to keep the tan as long as possible.

I used to think fake tans were gross/orangey etc, but there are some really good ones out there at the moment that are easy to apply and don't look orange. The Model Co one is meant to be pretty good, and St Tropez. I'd never used one before this year, preferring to sun bake, but for me, this summer was time to get smart!! I only use it on my legs cos my arms and back stay pretty brown anyway, and it looks pretty good (if I do say so myself!).
And yeah, I generally prefer brown to pale, but it depends on the person's natural colouring.

I'm pretty pale during winter, and I burn easily but thankfully it turns to tan. I don't get incredibly tanned, but I think a golden brown can't go astray.. It's better than looking pale and pasty.

No qualms about having pale skin, history of skin cancer, burn very easily and don't see the need to scar my skin this way. I don't tan for the same reason that I quit smoking - too much risk for little/brief gain, imho.

I go to the solarium twice a week. Only started a few months ago.
I dont tan very well naturally - I went to Tahiti a few months ago for 2 weeks and my colour hardly changed! I find the tanning beds work a treat and they make me feel so much better about getting my gear off in Summer.

I can't justify spending money on a solarium when it's 10 gazillion times nicer to lie on a beach. I also heard [from my brother who isn't actually a reliable source] that those tanning beds actually damage your skin more than the sun. True? False? The whole lack of sun thing is tempting me to actually go to a solarium sometime soon...

After living in Northern Europe where the sun barly shows its face for months on end and sometimes not at all, tanning bed are a life saver. You feel 100% better afer 6 mins on a sun bed. When I move back to QLD, I won´t be touching a solarium with a 40ft pole but they certainly make you feel good!

I've been pale for a looooong time (couldnt tan last summer due to a rather nasty skin problem), however these holidays shall be spent turning me brown.
Alas, I don't like to take my clothes off cokey styles, so insofar, only my lower arms and face/neck are tanned

and quite brown too, i must say

tanning in moderation is healthy. it allows you to synthesize vitamin D. this then helps with absorbtion of Ca2+ and phosphate from digestive tract into the blood. We have to increase our vitamin D digestion as a result of living indoors for a lot of the time, as well as wearing covering clothes. it is added to foods.

a bit of sun is good for you. but as in all things, moderation.

the reason you feel good after UV interaction is because your VitD is increased which increases Ca2+ absorbtion, making you feel generally better because your body is functioning better.

I feel better when i'm brown. Haven't really done any tanning yet so still fairly white.

A friend of mine took those tanning pills, she looked like an oompaloompa i thought. Spray tans look so dodgy.

I like the lying in the sun approach or being out n bout getting a tan.

My upper body tans pretty quickly but my poor old legs just stay white so I use fake tan on them. I'm sick of the smell though so I might do a couple of solarium visits. My legs need help anyway after a recent drunken episode when I got home and decided it would be oh so wise to put some tan on my legs and I made a bloody mess of them.

Yarns - call me and we solarium yes?

Honestly....skin shade is not really a deciding factor for me. I don't really tan so much as burn anyway, so it's not really for me--but even when it comes to being attracted to others, I have met guys with lily-shite skin who I'd fuck waaaay before I'd hit the tanned guy. And vice versa. There's more to even superficial attractiveness than just skin color.

the whole idea of fake tan or solariums seems kind of silly to me, but i must admit to having a preference for darker skin (both on myself and others).

i used to tan really really well when i was a kid, but not so much anymore. if i hang around in the sun enough i definitely get a lot browner than most people though. i like it :)
