I am looking into growing these beautiful, beautiful wonders of the world. The only problem is I live in california and no websites with ship spore prints or syringes to california. I can currently purchase dried mushrooms off a friend of mine, and im wondering if i can use peices of dried mushroom to innoculate the substrate?

please respond with any helpful information or tips as to how to grow mushrooms

I would imagin you would have a VERY high possibity for contams doing this. you don't have a friend who could order them and then send them to you? I would imagine this would work alot better

I'm in the exact same situation....damn california drug laws, they're so chill for marijuana but so lame for mushies :(

Well no I don't know anyone out of state who isn't straight edge family members , I'm so pissed I planned everything out to grow me some golden teachers and b+ then find out Cali is one of the three states they are illegal in.

If the company would just ship it they'd be fine, can smell mushroom spores

It's possible with fresh mushrooms and agar but not dried i'm afraid.

check out the shroomery.org link above

I don't know how close montrose is to the border, but you could just drive across, get a P.O. box and have it shipped there.

EDIT: I meant border with another state, not mexico, probably wouldn't wanna do that, lol

according to Paul Stamets it is possible *to get spores from dried mushrooms*, though like someone else said the likelyhood of contaminants is high.. don't let that stop you though! All you'd have to do is grow one mushroom and take a new print using sterile technique, then go from there.

when placed on top of water the spores from a dried mushroom cap will pour into it rather quickly.. i can't remember the right way to do it.. the reason there could be contaminants is that the caps will be exposed to the environment and pick up other mold spores and stuff.. lets see.. using ajar streaking there is a way to keep cultures that have been contaminated. the person just keeps cutting good pieces and moving them to new plates until the contaminants aren't there.

i don't believe dried mushrooms can be used for clones.

hey, also, aren't magic mushrooms illegal? <3

also, if you really want to learn about mycology.. get some good books. online has tips and tricks but the pros will give you the best info. stuff you can really feed your brain with. All of Paul Stamets books on the subject are cool and super informative! also, the oldschool book "psilocybin: magic mushroom growers guide" and much newer "psilocybin handbook: easy indoor and outdoor cultivation" would be very practical. if you don't feel like getting a minor in mycology just to grow a few shrooms than buying them would be your best bet.. but then, learning about mushrooms is awesome and can totally transform the way you look at them and the ecosystem in general. science is good! :)

Have your mail forwarded from another out of state address, and make sure the spores are shipped USPS. The vendor will never know they're breaking the law with you.

For $1 you just go to usps.com and tell them where your old address was you want forwarded to your new address. They send a notice addressed to your name to the old address... as long as nobody at the address calls up to complain about some kind of fraud, they'll start forwarding your mail to whichever new address you specified in the online form. This only works for a valid new address though, because the billing info on the credit card they charge $1 has to match your new address.

fraud? its more trouble than its worth! its also deceptive.. and unnecessary.

How is it unnecessary? You didn't offer a reasonable alternative...

i offered a very reasonable alternative. in fact, the original poster had the idea all on his own, and i said it WAS possible for him to do what he was considering. what you're suggesting is moving from the realm of very harmless mushroom cultivation to lying and deceiving, which is wrong.
