A couple people have attempted to convince me that tizanidine makes for good opiate potentiation. Is this true? I have a few 10 mgs hydros and 30 mgs of hydrocodone doesn't seem to do much for me these days, is it possible that taking some tizanidine along side will add to effects of the hydro? I am not expecting there to be a big difference but any noticeable addition to the high would be welcome.
Thanks in advance.%)

I think it's related to Clonidine which does potentiate opiates granted it's a very dangerous practice combining the 2. Tizanidine can cause hypotension so if you do take some with hydocodone take less of both drugs then you normally would. I don't know how bad the hypotension is compared to clonidine but i nearly fell over a few times standing up to quick on that.

Tizanidine is a weird drug. It is used primarily as a muscle relaxant and it is a centrally acting adrenergic agonist. Other adrenergic agonists include cocaine, amphetamines, and caffeine. Be careful with it as it can be very strong even at a 2 mg dose. Tizanidine is known to cause liver damage, hypotension, depression, and many other side effects. Tizanidine is a sedative, so it has the potential to add to the sedation of other CNS depressants, but I'm not sure whether it actually potentiates opioids. Tizanidine has been shown to improve opioid withdrawal symptoms.

Do not take tizanidine with CYP1A2 enzyme inhibitors, it can VASTLY increase the concentration of tizanidine in the blood.

Personally I would not take this drug unless I was going through severe opioid withdrawals. There are plenty of safer potentiators.

Thank you swimmingdancer. I have a blue gel cap either 4 or 6 mgs of it but ive decided not to take it based on your post.
I gotta find me the potentiator thread on BL

Here: The Ultimate Opioid Potentiation Thread.

You can also click "Advanced Search" at the top right, select "search titles only" next to keyword, and try keywords like "potentiator", "potentiation", etc and see a bunch of related threads. Of course which things will work as potentiators depend on the specific opioid, so it's best to do a search for the exact drug you want to use, like "oxycodone potentiator" or "heroin potentiator" or whatever. Or you can always ask me if you are looking for potentiators for a specific drug :)
