Hey I've decided to make yet another attempt at quitting smoking ciggarettes. I've only been smoking for a year but I've tried to quit a few times though they haven't been very wholehearted. Does anyone have any advice on quitting smoking? Anyone want to share any stories?

strangely enough, nitrous oxide, the "laughing gas" if you will, acts on the same receptors that nicotine does, and is said to "blunt" the extreme physical cravings for a cigarette. Of course, in reality, this might not work for you, you might just get high on nitrous, and your pyschological craving will kick in, saying it might be nice for a ice cold juicy cigarette...

Wellbutrin - yes, this shit reall does work... of course the problem is most insurance companies wont cover it FOR THAT PURPOSE... so simp[ly request it (by name) "for depression" ... basically it will kill the cravings....
Personally I have started smoking more... up to about a half-pack a day... it's just a great way to calm down when you can't afford to bring a bottle of benzos with you to work....
Plus smoking is the ULTIMATE ICE BREAKER! Even if you don't smoke, carry a lighter with you.. when you see a girl pull out a smoke, light yer lighter and say "A lady should never have to light her own ciggeratte" ...

I'd just try the Nicoret patch. It has worked for a lot of people I know. Just don't smoke when you got that motherfucker on or you'll get sick as shit...

The following things worked for me when quitting smoking:
-Use patches initially (I did for a week) to ease yourself down. Addiction to cigarettes seems to have two main parts - the chemical dependency and the physical habit - which both have to be overcome. By using patches to maintain the chemical dependency, you can focus on breaking the habit first, and once you have done that, the dependency is much easier to overcome.
-Whenever you feel like a cigarette, instead start chewing a piece of extra minty gum, super-strong tic tac, or some other strong mint. I found that the thought of what a smoke would taste like with that minty flavour in my mouth was un-appealing enough to put me off smoking. Chewing gum also gives you something to do other than the action of smoking.
The downside of this is that now I can't stop chewing gum - oh well...
I also found myself twiddling my keyring around a lot, just to give myself something to do with my fingers. Some small toy or object that you can fiddle around with when feeling anxious might help ;)
The change to my quality of life since quitting smoking is amazing. I get home from raves now without stained yellow fingers and stinky smoky clothes, and I don't spend the first half hour of every day coughing up crap. It is definately worth doing.
Good luck !

I used to smoke a pack a day for about about 3 years, until I got really sick for about 3 weeks. I just stopped smoking cigs when I was sick and never started the habit again. I never thought that I would quit, I didn't want to quit, it just happened. The smell of cigarettes usually is repulsive to me now, unless I am rolling, then I can smoke few. I think the best way to quit is "cold turkey" addiction is a sign of weekness.

I disagree that nicotine makes you calm, all it does it make it so when you need a cigarette is bring you to normal. Probably the worst addiction. Pot is a lot better, hey PhreeX ;)
Good luck with stopping nicotine addictions!
It's the biggest killer and always underlooked

my mom smoked cigs for 28 years and decided to quit. She went to a hypnotist. He hypnotized her to smell dog shit or vomit whenever she smelled a ciggarette.Well it worked, she quit cold turkey and now , 2 years later, she is completely tobacco free.Yay mom.

There is a fad going around where I work where they get this shot right behind their ear *ouch*.
3 people that got the shot no longer smoke. 1 started back within a week.
Apparently, you get this shot, then you are sick to your stomach for a day. You just never smoke again. They said it is suppose to stop your cravings.
I am not a smoker so I only know what they have told me.
Anyone else heard of it?
We also have 1 person who went and got hypnotized and she has not smoked in over a year.

Hmmm, can you do this to someone in their sleep? Hypnotize them to do the chicken dance isntead of smoking a fag?

There is a nicotine water being tested right now too - only you have to drink a quart to get the nicotine from one cigarette... Maybe you could drink 5 gallons a day to replace a pack a day habit!
