Any tips on getting the horrible resin taste out? I've put lemon juice in the water and I didn't notice much of a difference. I'd imagine getting it completely spotless would remove it, but is there anything that would make it taste better for the time being?

you have to get all the resin chunks out before the taste goes away.

using your solvent of choice (ISO or acetone), followed by soap and water and a final rinse and try should have your bong tasting like it was just blown

Even my grossest bongs came clean from soaking overnight in a HIGH concentration of dish soap.

Just run the water REALLY hot for a bit add a large amount of liquid dishsoap and let soak, the next day if you don't think it's going to rinse with a couple swishes of hot water, then just use a bottle brush.

I think it might be permanently stained. I am unable to get my old bong looking brand new again, because I let it get too dirty. Make sure not to let too much buildup occur, because there is a point of no return, where it will sort of sink into the glass and it will be very difficult to get rid of. My new bong, I make sure to clean with rubbing alcohol and salt daily, and it has remained in superb condition.

It takes a lot more than cannabis smoke to permanently stain glassware. One can clean even the filthiest, resin caked bong, if you take some time and some elbow grease. Using scouring agents like a bottle brush or kosher salt is a must though. Softening the resin up with hot water before dissolving it with iso/acetone is good too.

I would never microwave a flammable solvent... that sounds like a recipe to turn your microwave into a fireball as it fills with flammable solvent vapours...
