There was also mention somewhere here in AusDD recently about a study that found some link between common analgesics and hearing loss? Here we go:

Many years ago I was prescribed large doses of slow release aspirin. I didn't realise at the time but this caused me to have a complete mental melt down due to the associated tinitus that it caused, ringing in my ears and head 24, 7 none stop!!! Once I found out that it was a side effect of aspirin i stopped taking it and the tinitus disappeared.

Apparently people with incurable tinnitus even commit suicide in some of the worst cases - let's just say there's no envy on my part!
