leary did fall off the horse there for a while, but i think the government would have outlawed it regardless, or it quite possibly might not have reached such a large fan base. i really think this next time around (as far as a psych revolution) a more conservative image of lsd users is called for. huxley sets a good example, and we need more prestigous people advicating responsible drug use for anything to change. im really sick of peoples perception of lsd and its users.

And what is this revolution supposed to be? Millions of people took LSD and other 'psychedelic' drugs in sixties and millions and millions in later years. That's a lot more than it took for Cuban revolution (80 revolutionaries led by Castro & Che) or October revolution which was carried out by bolsheviks (who were a minority in the Petrograd soviet). Then Mussolini... he came to power with his March to Rome which had app. 400k supporters. Do you really think that peasants fighting in Mao's Red Army in china had any idea about dialectic materialism or have red Das Kapital? Or were they just following a charismatic minority of Marxist intellectuals?

That's as far as having a revolution goes.

Back to primary question: what sort of revolution is this supposed to be? Did USA change for the better once people with LSD experiences become part of the establishment? As far as I can see it hasn't improved a bit (xcept for neocon's sunrise of liberty over the once oppressed Iraqis and Afghanis - this sounds a bit psychedelic... like summer of love in the middle east). Blah... Revolution of the psyche my ass. Just because LSD makes you feel good if the trip is going well & imagery is extraordinary doesn't really mean that it has changed you for the better. Heroin makes you feel fantastic, so why no idea about a heroin psych revolution?

Dunno why I even bother but if you're still not in your late (ok to be fair mid to-) 20's or early 30's there's no way you'll figure it out
 
Maybe that sunrise of liberty are flashes of Israeli self propelled howitzers & 'smart' bombs off the wings of F-16's. Or flashes of hezbollah's katysha's firing from the other side? There seems to be lots of psychedelia going on there!
 
a revolution of evolution! 6 million people ate lsd in the 60's and 70's, where did they all go? the people that are running our country cant run it for ever, personally i plan on finishing my degree and become pro-active. advacating responsible drug use, and become a possitive symbol. i mean, our civil liberties are at stake. the fact that a responsible adult using lsd for positive experiences/exploration is a crime is an atrocity, and we shouldnt stand for it. im not calling for a hippie style revolution, that would be a complete perpetuation. the great thing about a second revolution, we have all the knowledge of why the first one failed. singing songs and shit (although fun :D )doesnt evolve conciousness. and thats the plan, to evolve.
 
First of all I don't think your age validates your opinion in the least bit. Secondly, psychedelics have been used to induce spiritual revelations in cultures for years. Why don't you tell the native americans that have had life changing experiences on peyote that their experience is comparable to heroin? Or maybe you could go into the rainforest and tell them that ayahuasca is just making them feel good. Wait a minute, I know! You can go down to Mexico and tell them that mushrooms are just as much of a right of passage as heroin is. And of course all those alcoholics that took LSD and overcame their addiction could've done the exact same thing with heroin or coke. That comparison is not only baseless but it's stupid. And since when are proponents of LSD going to raise arms? It's never been an issue, it's more of a cultural/intellectual revolution that these people propose. Like the renaissance or enlightment, I'm not saying this will happen but I am saying that you're way off.

No doubt he did a lot of things wrong. More than likely sped up the illegalization of LSD. However, without him I doubt any of us would have ever had it. It would've undergone some studies maybe been used medicinally, but I doubt it would've ever become popular. He might have gone about it the wrong way, but beyond the glory seeking ego I believe he had the best intentions.

The author of this book is the father of a good college friend of mine. The book was extensively researched, including information from many interviews Greenfield conducted with leading activitsts and countercultural figures during the 70's and 80's. I forget who said this, but I think it is true and illustrates a fundamental point where Leary went wrong: Ram Dass (Alpert) saw psychedelics as a way for the prepared individual to clean out their own mind, whereas Leary saw them as a way to exorcise society, ready or not, as a whole.

Im saying think for your self. everything is a concept, not to put faith in anything. even what Im saying, question it. coem to your own truth.
 
Dangbu you make a very relevant point however, perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to think that your ability to see things from your perspective directly related to your age. I am 19 and hold a very similar point of view.
One cannot expect a society to be revolutionised simply be shifting our perceptions temporarily with the help of psychedelics. It takes a lot more.
